What's up. My name is Amir, I love sports, A HUGE fan. My Passion and Soul is in Footbal "Soccer", I know mostly everything there is about it. I also love Baseball, Basketball and American Football, in that order. I do my best not to be biased to one team, or any for that matter. I am a huge Real Madrid fan, but I give credit where credit is due. So if Barcelona, Valencia or any other team for that matter, I will not bash them because I can. I love sports and it's fans because for me it is a intoxicating drug that gives me something to do. The only thing I hate are fans who have some narrow minded opinion on something. It is a right for everyone to have a say but please make an educated and reasonable opinion or point of view.

Video Evidence Good or Bad?

Michel Platini has stated time and time again that he would not like the use of video in the game of football to decide the outcome of goals, offside’s and fouls. But many have insisted, one of whom is Arsenal Skipper Arsene Wenger, to accommodate the use of Video Evidence into the game for the outcome of difficult calls, which are as stated above goals, offside’s and fouls. But Is this a good Idea, the use of Video Evidence is used in games such as basketball and American Football.

President of UEFA Michel Platini is against the use of Video Evidence.

But using it in Soccer a.k.a Football will have a good effect or slow the game down in which it changes completely and strips away its beauty. Or will it perfect the game from Human Error and Influence and make it more exciting. In my opinion, I believe the use of Video Evidence could have a bad effect on the game, like the game of Baseball if we used Video Evidence on every call play and catch there would be somewhat of a downside to it, as it makes the game more exciting to see the umpire call "he's Out!" when maybe he was actually safe.

But as of this year, the MLB has enforced a new rule stating that the umpires can go to Video Evidence to check if a Homerun is one or not. Now that sounds alright to me as in some fields or domes it is quite difficult to say, as the sun might get in the way, the walls of the domes have the same color as the ball and it is hard to tell because of the different angles the Umpires might have.

Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger who agrees with the idea of Video Evidence as it will enhance the quality of the game.

But away from baseball, is Video Evidence Good or Bad, Football is known for its fast pace and nonstop clock, the clock never stops, so using the video Evidence won't it stop the clock and slow the game down and change the game completely, as for the special ball that decides whether the ball has crossed the goal line or not it seems that is alright as it does not slow the game down and its becoming more reliable. But I would like to ask all of you whether Video Evidence is the right thing for this Sport, not baseball or American Football.

I for one do not support Instant replay in almost any circumstance. I think it removes judgment from the rules. NOT ALL THINGS IN SPORTS ARE BLACK AND WHITE. Furthermore, as we have seen with American Football, even with replay you cannot eliminate human error by the officials. So my answer is keep replay out of everything if possible.

For goals, and whether the ball has crossed the line, there is an easy solution. But a chip in the ball that detects whether it is over the line, and sends a tone into the ear of a linesman so that he can give the goal. A bit like in ice hockey, but with a sound output that the refs here, rather than a light output that everyone can see.

The offside rule is a joke, with third and fourth phases of play blather blather blather. It's never obvious whether somebody is offside or not.

Fouls, again no. There's just no need. Although, I would be in favour of retroactively looking at fouls that were missed by the referee and imposing bans if necessary.

The game clock won't stop if video refereeing is introduced, it'll just be included in added on time.

I don't think it should be introduced in any sport. The whole concept of sport is that you should play for the fun of it. Yes, work hard to be the best, but the whole idea is that you should go out and enjoy it. Once you start backchatting referees, and undermining them with video technology, you're getting away from the point of sport, in my opinion.

And in fairness, watch this: http://uk.yo...=llpuzHfH7No The players can't even help themselves. When the jobsworth on the touchline gave that goal, why were the Reading team not telling the referee that it wasn't a goal? And if it still stood, why didn't they just give them a goal back? The players want video refereeing to cut down bogus decisions, but if they helped themselves, and stopped trying to break the rules deliberately (diving etc.), then there wouldn't be the need to bother with strict refereeing regimes and video replays etc. Not in a game like football, anyway.

Is there any reason why soccer (futbol, w/e) insists on having only one referee? I know there are linesmen, or ref assistants (which sounds like a stewardess to flight attendant promotion), but the lack of officials on the field seems to be a much more glaring error than the lack of video replay.

Because there always has been. I can offer no greater explanation.

well platini petitioned for 5 or 6 officials, i really dont know if there should be more, but because there are those special microphones and they're going to be on all sides of the pitch that might reduce the human error part, but still it seems alot.

Deciding whether or not the ball crossed the goal line would be a good place for instant replay. But as Alex said above, you could do that with a computer chip.

I for one, wouldn't mind instant replay (at full speed ONLY) on fouls inside the box. I don't think there's any other call in all of major sports that has as much impact as calling a foul inside the box and thus a penalty kick.

Officials should be able to review it the way college football reviews plays. An official watching in the press box basically beeps the officials on the field, and the play is reviewed. For fouls inside the box, if you review in slow motion, things sometimes look better/worse than they actually were. So review the play at regular speed.

You have a point, but I think that fouls should be considered on where and how the defender touched the Striker, but that doesn't happen most of the time because they look at the better/worse part unfortunately. But if they do the instant replay thing, they should look at the way the defender touched the other player. Not on how Bad it looks.

I was against video replay until I found out Platini supports not using it. Platini can get bent.

I never like the Idea of having presidents of Organizations, like UEFA there should be a Body but not 1 person who in the end makes the calls..

But that's the politics of the sports now..

But all i care about is the sport itself..
