Unbelievable video

I don't know how many people saw this video but I couldn't believe it when I saw it.  They showed it on ESPN and I watched it again on you tube just so I made sure I saw it right. Jonathan Roy, son of Patrick Roy, gets into a fight in a junior hockey league game.  That wouldn't be so bad except that the other goalie didn't want to fight.  Roy just went down to the other end of the ice and started hitting him.  It was a completely classless and disrespecful act that should be punished by the league.  I understand fights in hockey, I can even understand when the goalies go at it.  That's fine with me, but you don't start punching someone when they want no part of it and do nothing to deserve it.  Even in the NHL the players that fight agree to do it.  Sometimes there will be punches thrown when guys don't want it but that is part of the scrums that happen around the goal.  But a goalie skating the entire length of the ice, ripping off the opposing goalies mask and just wailing on him while the goalie drops and covers is unacceptable.  This is not hockey, not even close.

No, it was the Quebec Remparts. I watch this league(QMJHL)alot and this is not the first time either Patrick or his son did something stupid like this.If you look really closly you can see Patrick make a hand gesture to Johnathan sugesting that he should go after the other goalie.I think he should be suspended for at least 35 games.

Roy Delivered a very "heartfelt" apology yesterday, saying he was sorry for giving the fans the finger, but never mentioned he was sorry for skating down the ice and wailing on a goalie who had no intention of fighting in the first place. I say skip the suspension and send him to court on assault charges.

Vicious? Yes. Unwarranted? Yes. Sad, disgusting, etc? Yes. But unbelievable? Not at all. Hockey has had too many of these incidents for this to be considered “unbelievable”. One guy got angry and fought another. You can’t allow fighting in hockey, and then get angry when someone does.

I will once again bring up the double standard that this type of fighting exists in the NHL and only when it gets to an EXTREME extent such as this a fuss would be made. If a quarter of this scuffle were to take place in the NBA, it'd be all over Sportscenter. What Jonathan Roy did was the equivalent of assault and he should have been taken out in cuffs. And as much I respected Roy as a dominant goalie, he needs to go with Jonathan for instigating this.

Thats a bit of an alarmists view, just because a fight in one sport would be more severe in another does not mean charges should be laid. The Quebec crime council is investigating but really these kinds of things should be taken care of 'in-house'. Its not basketball of golf, its hockey and things get crazy some times.
