AGM Linebacker and I will bring the pain.

I'm a sports fanatic. I hail from Nelson County Virginia, and thats where I learned to be a Virginia Cavalier fan. I also learned to be a Dallas Cowboys fan because I hated how good the Redskins were doing. I've played sports at almost every level with the exception of being a fulltime professional, as a result I have a great perception on the sporting world. I love to talk sports and I've never been shy to share my opinion with someone.

Tiger Woods is Bad For The Economy

It felt like the entire world stopped yesterday to watch Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate go head to head in a playoff for the U.S. Open Championship. What was an 18 hole round of golf turned into a 19 hole sudden death match, and you can turn to any sports media outlet today and watch the whole story.

However, what is even more impressive is the far reaching impact that Tiger and Rocco had. Because it wasn't sports fans who were watching yesterday's round. The guys on Wall Street were watching, and the market felt the effect. That's right, Tiger Woods managed to hurt the American economy. Between the hours of 12 pm est and 4 pm est, the NYSE took a 9% drop below it's normal trading average. Touching a low that the market typically only sees during a holiday weekend. Trading volumes were down while the ratings for the U.S. Open were at an all-time high. Apparently a large chunk of the U.S. took Monday as a long weekend, and enjoyed the magistry that is Tiger Woods.

When trading volumes are down, that's a GOOD thing in a market like this - ESPECIALLY on a Monday. High trading volumes are a sign of volatility, not stability. But also, volumes are historically low in the summer too. Investors are too busy on their yachts and private jets going on vacation to juggle their holdings this time of year.

If you're moving in the market now, you're just selling low (which is smart, if you bought lower i guess)...but really, all you wanna do at this point is buy and hold...

When you sense people are buying and holding, it's usually time to buy more!@!!

I would never suggest market timing, but a dead market is a buyer's market - (if you have the balls to withstand the paranoia - most investors are pussies at times like these, which in essence MAKES it worse!

Mass Hysteria on the downside can make a lot of sweet buys available to you.

Also remember - for every seller there HAS to be a buyer. And when the market makers are buyers, YOU should think about being one too. Market makers are in the business for ONE SIMPLE REASON. TO MAKE MONEY. They don't care if it's a penny or a dollar, they will do their best to make money.

I was about to say, if you are saying marketing timing/guessing that may be the worst advice Ive heard in a while.

Market timing is the attempt to buy as low as possible and sell as high as possible.

It NEVER works (unless you own your own trading platform and you have a compliance guy that is blind in one eye, but that's another issue)

The point of the game is to make money. Greedy people try to make more than is logical (and in most cases, legal)

I'm a "limit" guy. When it gets to the price I'm looking for I move. I don't care where it was before I got it and I don't care where it goes after I get rid of it...

Tiger is good for the Economy when he wins on Sunday (i.e. not on a day when he's playing when people should be working)

In all actuallity Tiger is good for the economy because in his own right he is an economic stimulus. People watch him and then want to go out and play golf, spend their money on clubs and buy nike gear and anything else.

Yeah, but when he wins another portion of the money supply gets taken away from the populus and into his vault.

Of course, if he spends the money or invests it, it helps the economy. Unless he's blowing it on coke and strippers or investing in commercial swampland.

Then again, the strippers and coke dealers are probably spending the money they made from him on things like frozen yogurt.

But they get their choice of toppings. That's good!

On the other hand, tThe toppings contain potassium benzoate.

(Homer looks puzzled)

Shopkeeper: ...That's bad.

Well, Im doubting his purse from these tourneys (although substantial by our standards) are that impressive especially when compared against his normal endorsment contracts and the money that every hack golfer will spend buying the new Nike driver after Tiger shows his play with it.

Because Nike is a big mover and shaker in the economic world?

Or because Tiger will personally profit from each sale?

Me thinks Rocco's sponsors are happier this morning than Nike is!

I meant because Nike is a big mover and shaker. The more Tiger is out there playing and doing well, the more people see his new stuff coming down the line. Everyone knows what is in Tigers bag, Rocco is not sure what was in his bag.
