AGM Linebacker and I will bring the pain.

I'm a sports fanatic. I hail from Nelson County Virginia, and thats where I learned to be a Virginia Cavalier fan. I also learned to be a Dallas Cowboys fan because I hated how good the Redskins were doing. I've played sports at almost every level with the exception of being a fulltime professional, as a result I have a great perception on the sporting world. I love to talk sports and I've never been shy to share my opinion with someone.

Tiger Woods Tears His ACL

According to his own website TigerWoods.com, Tiger Woods will undergo another knee surgery. This time it is the big one. Tiger Woods will undergo ACL reconstruction surgery that will keep him out for the rest of the 2008 PGA Season. In addition to the ACL repair Tiger will also be resting and healing a stress fracture in his Tibia. Apparently he knew of the stress fracture before entering the U.S. Open and chose to play through it.

Knowingly playing through a double stress fracture in his leg, and gutting it out for 5 days of golf is borderline insane. It also grows the legend that is Tiger Woods that much more. He played the U.S. Open on a broken leg and won. Maybe his father was right in those commercials that were airing over the weekend. There is not a person more mentally tough than Tiger. To be able to withstand the pain of a torn ACL and a broken leg and walk for 90 plus holes is amazing.

Don't think it's that impressive because it's only golf? Look at this way, the pitcher from the Yankees Wang, sprained his foot running the bases and will be done to at least September. Woods, played in the biggest event of the year with his injury.

Simply amazing.

Tiger has definitely got a lot of heart. I remember saying in an interview that his leg hasn't gotten any better. He never ceases to amaze me. Playing injured, and then winning it. The guy has got the heart of a lion, and... wow... I can't believe he did it all!

Does anyone know which method Tiger is choosing for the reconstruction of his ACL? My 17 year old son tore his ACL in football and I am reading that the patella tendon reconstruction is the best if he wants to play college ball someday. Any comments or advice?

Tiger already had the surgery, they used tendons from his hamstring.

Tiger played the Open against doctor's orders. While his performance is mind-blowing, was it worth possibly the rest of his career?

Yeah know what, I gotta say I like what he did. Because if that is his last tourney what a way to go out. I've been there done that and played through injury when the Docs tell you not to. And you know what its, a a gutsy call, but there's a lot to be said for doing it on your terms and your own way.

I wonder if this will make Mike Milbury take back his "Tiger Wuss" comment...Tiger has never been my favorite golfer, but this definately changes my opinion of him. Playing on an injured leg and winning the tournament...What a warrior.

I pitched a one hitter 6 days after tearing ligaments and breaking two bones in my ankle and has numerous adhesion fractures on my tibia (one of my finest moments until I got hit by a pitch while batting - IN THAT ankle (I couldn't jump out of the way). Big whoop. When the adrenaline kicks in, good sense and pain evaporate!

Besides, Tiger WAS getting painkillers and treatment to deal with it AND he wasn't even carrying his own bag... =)

I've had stress fractures in my foot before (from overcompensating from a broken big toe on the opposite foot)... they SUCK. BIG TIME.

If you've ever had shin splints (which are teeny stress fractures) it's like those but unendinging and droning, constant pain. Don't be surprised if his leg injuries result in future back and upper body issues.

I won't put it up there with the guys who survived D-Day tough, but I think a lot of people in the world would grind it out under those conditions when they consider the money and glory that comes with it.

I'm not calling him superhuman, but merely - He did what he needed to do and didn't puss out. But the Philly boy in me would like to see more dirt on his pants and maybe a little blood trickling before I'll call him "tough".

Let's say he's "Golf Tough" - (ranks up there with "Press Box Hot", talking "New York Loud" and playing a little "Poodle Gasol Defense")

Im calling BS on that piece of crap Schielling. That same injury ended my football career 7 yrs ago, and I played through it in high school and college, that includes 8 yrs of rugby. My point is, what Schielling did wasn't that impressive. The torn tendon don't hurt and the other ones stretch enough so you cant feel it.

"Press Box Hot" - ugh.

Take the girl that is slightly one notch above "Not That Fugly" and put her ina press box and magically she turns into Miss America. I'm scarred... the way they ogled Jody Jackson was nauseating. She looks like a Toucan, a Hippo and a Pltypus tri-fathered a baby with a pear on steroids.

I'm still sick thinking about the things they muttered...

KD, the D-Backs buffet last year was garbage. The Arizona Fall League had better food than the D-Backs. THAT is saying something!!!

I thought it was funny that the Rays served "Yankee Pot Roast" when the Yankees were in town. But I wasn't going to risk it...

Again I say he's the best that ever was. This will not ruin his career, he's too much of a competitor for that to happen. He will rehab harder than most and will be back to a level only he can achieve.Having had a MCL operation and being an avid golfer I know it can be done.He may have to change his swing a little but who's better at that than the master.Speaking of masters, he will win the next one.

Yeah, a torn ACL for a golfer is the same as it would be with a runningback. It was his rehab, that put the stress fracture, but I don't think that will happen again. He changed his swing during the U.S. Open just to adapt to the pain, so you know he can change the swing again. I will declare it now, everyone in the Masters pool in 09 watch out Tiger will be on teh hunt and he will make his debue there and be ready to go at 100%

The thing about the stress fractures is he will be forced to rest them while the ACL is healing. So typically Id agree with you KD about them.

Um, not necessarily true. Tiger relies on his left side more than anyone else. Guys like Daly and Mickelson have more rounded swings, their followthroughs are longer and are more stressful on the upper body than the lower.

Tiger's swing is more of an up and down swing, like he's trying to see how big a divot he can take as opposed to how far the ball goes. This puts more stress on the lower half. Tiger said after the tournament his knee only hurt AFTER he hit the ball, he snaps his lower leg so violently in a way to keep himself from falling over in his follow through.

Nothing Tiger does surprises me anymore, but remember what happened to Faldo and Duval when injuries forced them to change their swings, they were never again even close to what they were before.

And this will be Tigers fourth surgery on his left knee, his swing has already taken a toll on him, going into this operation his knee is already beginning to deteriorate.

Before this morning, we could have speculated on Tiger winning 100 career tournaments and 25-30 majors, now it is questionable he even catches Nicklaus.

Talk about taking it to the complete extreme of what could happen. Agreed that knee takes a ton of punishment with the way he swings the club. The difference between his swing and that of Duval is the overall talent level. Also a back injury and a knee injury are very different, he can adjust as swing to take pressure off the knee, but when your back is out there is not much you can do to change the way you swing so it doesn't tug and pull on your back

Two comments in the last hour annointing Tiger being 100% for the Masters next year and maybe winning, and there's no guarantee he will be ready.

There's far more of what goes into a golfer's swing than just swinging the club. Tiger's had the same mechanics for thirty years, he trusts them, and he trusts the results. Now there is a chance he will have to make significant changes and people think he'll come back and contend in ten months?

And remember, Tiger did make a swing change earlier in his career and it took him a year and a half to get comfortable with it, and his changes were considered then were considered minor.

The two stress fractures concern me more than the ligament, to be honest.

We've seen two great Tiger "slumps": Late 1997 to mid-1999, when he was fine-tuning the swing that won countless amateur titles and one Masters but struggled with consistency and distance control on irons; and 2003 to early 2005, when he was fine-tuning "the swing that won the Slam" into an even more accurate version that would also put less pressure on his knee during the downswing. Now we're going to see a 4th version of Tiger's swing, and there is definitely going to be a period of adjustment, maybe a long one. But if we've learned anything about Tiger, it's that he adapts to swing changes better than any player maybe ever, and who knows? Maybe Tiger v4.0 will be even better than the previous 3 versions.
