The Tomahawk Times - Mariners break out late, pound Braves 10-2

ATLANTA -- Sometimes a change will do you good. Just one day removed from firing manager John McLaren, the Seattle Mariners unleashed a late inning offensive barrage to earn rare road victory with a 9-2 triumph over the Atlanta Braves on Friday.
It did not take long for Jim Riggleman to get in the win column for the Mariners, becoming the seventh Seattle skipper to win his debut contest.
A tight game through six innings started to get out of hand for Atlanta in the seventh inning. The Mariners launched a one-out rally after Willie Bloomquist drew a walk. Jeremy Reed followed with double that gave the M's a 2-1 advantage.
The Braves elected to walk Ichiro Suzuki to set up a potential double play, but the strategy back fired when the Mariners followed with consecutive singles and a sacrifice fly to open up a 4-1 lead.
Jorge Campillo (2-2) left trailing 2-1, but was charged with four earned runs in six and a third innings of work. He allowed eight hits and walked three while striking out two.
Seattle would score five times in the eighth to open up a 9-1 advantage. All the runs were charged to Will Ohman, with all five coming after two men were out. Jose Lopez hit a bases clearing double and was then promptly driven home by Raul Ibanez double that followed.
Erik Bedard was forced to leave the game after just three innings of work, after suffering from back spasms. He is listed as day-to-day.
Injuries struck the Braves again as well, with both Chipper Jones and Yunel Escobar forced to leave the game with leg injuries. Jones re-aggravated his strained right quadriceps, while Escobar strained his right hip flexor. Both are listed as day-to-day.
Entering play on Friday, only Seattle had won fewer games on the road this season than the Braves. Both teams are now tied part of a three-way tie with the San Diego Padres with a Major League worst 11 road victories on the year.
On Deck: The Braves will send Jair Jurrjens to the mound in search of his eighth win of the season. Seattle will counter with left-hander Jarrod Washburn. Game time is set for 7:05
