PHILADELPHIA -- Tom Glavine finally picked up his first win in an Atlanta Braves uniform since 2002, holding the Philadelphia Phillies in check for five and two thirds innings as the Braves held on for an 8-6 victory on Wednesday.

It was vintage Glavine (1-1) for the first five inning, holding Philadelphia to one hit in earning his first win of the season. Glavine would go five and two thirds and allow four runs on four hits and a pair of walks while striking out four.

The Braves piled up runs early against Brett Myers that proved to come in handy as the Phillies chipped away in the late innings. Myers (2-4) surrendered eight runs in four and two thirds innings, including three homers. He has now allowed a Major League high 15 on the season.

Yunel Escobar and Chipper Jones were the first to connect for round trippers, doing so in the first inning to stake Glavine to a 2-0 lead. Kelly Johnson added one in the second inning to make it 3-0.

The Braves put five more runs on the board with rallies in the third and fifth. Brian McCann drove home three, with two coming on his third inning double. Gregor Blanco also contributed a two-run single that expanded the lead to 8-0 and closed the book on Myers.

Glavine was on cruise control for much of the night and allowed just one hit over the first five innings. The Phillies scored four times to chase the Atlanta left-hander. Chase Utley 's two-run homer was the big blow in the frame.

Philadelphia scored twice more, one in the eight and once in the ninth. Ryan Howard connected for a solo homer against Royce Ring with two outs in the eighth. The Phillies threatened but were unable to get the big hit in the ninth.

Blaine Boyer came on and record the final four outs, retiring Pat Burrell in the eighth and pitching the ninth for his first save of the season. He became the fifth Atlanta pitcher to notch a save this season. The Braves are next to last in the Majors with just six saves this season.

Mark Teixeira returned to the Atlanta line-up and went 0-for-4 after missing the last two games with back spasms.

On Deck: It will be a battle of southpaws on Thursday when Chuck James and Cole Hamels lock up in the final and rubber game of this three-game series. Game time is set for 7:05 PM EST.

After his last loss Chuck James he didn't bellyache about anyone else...he just said he grooved some pitches he didn't mean to groove and I respect him for telling it like it is. Aaron Neville would have been proud of him.
