The Tomahawk Times - Braves place Soriano on 15-day disabled list

DENVER -- The Atlanta Braves placed closer Rafael Soriano on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow tendonitis just prior to Wednesday's contest against the Colorado Rockies. Chuck James was activated from the DL to take Soriano's place on the active roster and make his first start of the season.

Soriano's spring was very slow going, as the Braves did not send the righty reliever to the mound until the middle of March due to a stomach virus and a sore elbow. It was the elbow that flared up in his most recent appearance against New York on Sunday. Though he did come on and close out the 3-1 victory, Soriano surrendered the only Mets run and was rescued by Mark Teixeira 's diving play to end the game with the tying runs on base.

The move can be made retroactive to Sunday's contest since Soriano has yet to throw in either of the two games in Colorado. Manager Bobby Cox indicated that he plans to go with Manny Acosta in the closer's role during Soriano's absence.
