The Tomahawk Times - Braves activate Infante from DL, Pena sidelined

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Braves have certainly dealt with their fair share of injuries this season. On Thursday, the Braves got one of the walking wounded back when they activated infielder Omar Infante from the 15-day disabled list.

Infante, 26, will see action right away, hitting lead-off and playing second base in the series finale against the San Diego Padres.

In order to bring Infante back to the active roster, Brayan Pena was placed on the 15-day DL with a mid-back strain. The move is retroactive to May 5. Pena has not played in the team's last three games dude to soreness in his back.

Infante was acquired in a trade with the Chicago Cubs over the winter in exchange for righty reliever Jose Ascanio. Altanta intended to make Infante a super-utility man who would see time all over the diamond, but that plan was put on hold when Infante broke his hand in winter-ball and missed all of spring training.

While displaying some of his versatility by playing centerfield on a recent rehab stint with Triple-A Richmond, Infante went 4-for-11 in three games. Infante's return helps fill the void the Braves felt when Martin Prado went down with a severely sprained left thumb on May 5.

The Soriano thing is not so much a rumor as a mystery. He's just not ready yet, but the MRI showed no damage or injury that should keep him sidelined for a long period of time. I guess the best they know is, they just don't know. Hmm.
