The modern-day concept of Red Sox Nation is kind of a joke. You purchase a little membership card from the club to ensure your tenure in RSN is legit and to give FOX something to talk about during Saturday afternoon baseball games. It ranges from $15 a season to $105.

The joke is that the price is before you spend $200 on obstructed view tickets to a regular season game.
The joke is that the price is before you slap down $50 a month on cable to get NESN just to watch the team play.
The joke is that the price is before you throw away $200 on an authentic Manny Delcarmen jersey.

The joke is that they think you need a little plastic card to prove you're a member of RSN. My personal membership card is a vomit stained trashcan from when I violently threw up during game 7 of the 2003 ALCS. My dad's membership card is watching the ball squeak through Buckner's legs while my grandfather's membership card was living to be 70+ and dying without getting to see a World Series win.

Really, this is all besides the point. The original point was to link this article about Japanese Red Sox Nation member Yasuyuki Ohta. The article is excellent and a good read. Here is an excerpt:

KYOTO, Japan – Yasuyuki Ohta sprinted from the back of his bar’s kitchen. He passed jerseys on the wall and autographed baseballs in protective plastic cases before grabbing a T-shirt that hung on a coat rack in the corner.

“See,” he said. “J.D. Drew.”

...

What would you expect from the man who three years ago quit his job as an engineer, bought a pub and named it Fenway Park? Drew had just stroked a grand slam in the Red Sox’s eventual 9-2 exhibition victory against the Yomiuri Giants, and Ohta – known as Tiger – didn’t want to slack in front of guests.

..

“We are the Red Sox’s offshore bar,” Tiger says.

His English is getting better. When Fenway Park opened in July 2005, Tiger knew two words: “Yankees suck.”

It's not too bad - it's awesome!

When the Rays win the division this year - all you whiny Sox fans and all the smarmy Yankees fans are gonna have their hands full of me... and if by some great mishap the Rays don't win the division - WHAT are the whiny Sox fans and smarmy Yankees fans going to have to say? Nothing!!!

HA HA HAAAAA!!!

The revolution continues to revolve!!! What goes around, comes around!

[edit] Go RAYS!!!

"WHAT are the whiny Sox fans and smarmy Yankees fans going to have to say? Nothing!!!"

The more important question is what the poor Rays fans WILL say when it happens? "Wait until next year!"

Its a classic.

It's "Wait Til Next Year" and it's ours! Well, technically it's Brooklyn's, but we adopted everything Brooklyn Dodgers so we keep the phrases too. You gonna call the Rays "Bums" next?

Do me a favor Soxaddict? Please read your post aloud before you post. You have some good stuff but your sentence structure is off and you have useless words scattered throughout. If you read aloud then edit before posting I'm sure your work will come out much more concise. Therefore your quality of work will be high! =)

I'm thinking of a certain match at Old Trafford from last season, a 1 - nil match. A match that propelled Chelsea back into the title race. How about the match I injured my neck celebrating when Arsenal came back from 0-1 down with 10 minutes to play to beat United away? Maybe this year the end result will equal the means.

It's not that you messed up per say Soxaddict, it's just that somethings could be said much clearer and much more concise. For example we'll take the paragraph where you use the rule of 3 to set up a pattern and draw the reader into your point:

" The joke is that the price is before you spend $200 on obstructed view tickets to a regular season game. The joke is that the price is before you slap down $50 a month on cable to get NESN just to watch the team play. The joke is that the price is before you throw away $200 on an authentic Manny Delcarmen jersey."

I won't break it down, I'll just re-write it how I would of done it and I think you'll get the point:

The joke is spending $200 on regular season seats with an obstructed view. The joke is dropping an extra $50 dollars a month to get NESN and all Sox games from home. The joke is the $200 dollar receipt on my authentic Manny Delcarmen jersey.

We dropped 21 words from that paragraph and brought your three thoughts inline with the rule of 3. Therefore you don't have multiple thoughts, or redundant phrases where they don't belong.

"Omit needless words, vigorous writing is concise"

Heh but the whole point was to reiterate the price of a membership being before spending money on all those other things. I never said anything was a joke, etc. in the first paragraph so if I said it afterwards, it wouldn't make sense.

It's already implied by the fact that your being asked to spend more money that the use of "joke" is sarcastic to drive your point. You are reiterating the price of the membership by going through the rule of three. Three points that add weight to the original one. Your point is that they want you to pay to to be a member of RSN despite the fact you already shell out a crap load of cash to show your support right? You buy the cable package, you take your bad seats, you wear your overpriced jersey, and yet they want more money to prove your memnbership. So, by re-writing more concise you drive home your obviously point, add witty sarcastic remarks and your original point still holds weight; it hasn't become lost in amongst the prices of the other commodities. Your point is that they charge you more money for your RSN membership, despite the fact your and other RSN members have more then proven your fandom. Therefore we must keep your article on topic and focused on your original point. Long story short you still don't need all your extra words because the sarcasm is implied within your content. So read your stuff aloud, make it concise and drop all those useless words. You did it in a couple of other places in the article as well, I only used that one paragraph as an example.

Keep in mind that the Red Sox have won 2 of the last 4 World Series in sweeps no less. The Yankees really have nothing to talk about per se until they do win another WS and preferably before they move to the new ballpark.
