You can't make a list like this without omissions, but this one did a good job of including players some forget. The only two exceptions I noticed were no Josh Gibson, and no Nap Lajoie. And maybe King Kelly, too.

Oh, and including Jeter as a notable? Notable for what? Being the 2nd best SS on his team?

Pretty good list for every position. Need help with the designated hitter spot? How about Frank Thomas? Edgar Martinez? David Ortiz had a few good seasons with the Sawx... maybe he should get mentioned? I don't know.

As far as the pitchers go, why don't you comprise a list of 3 relief pitchers as well. There's no way you could compare Gossage, Fingers, and Rivera to Gibson, Young, Koufax, and Johnson. So just make another list.

I am shocked that I found Jeter as a sleeper as well. He will be considered one of the best shortstops of all time by many people, but not with the numbers he has right now. Maybe when he gets closer to that 3,000 hit mark.

I think Pete Rose, Grover Alexander, Christy Mathewson should at least be recognized, as well.

When you think of Nolan Ryan, most people think about his 7 no hitters, 300+ wins and/or his 5714 K's. However, I seriously think people overrate him.

People forget to look at the negatives. For example, Nolan Ryan almost lost 300 games (292)... and if you compare that with his 324 wins, it's not that far away from being a career .500 record. He has NEVER won a Cy Young award in his 27 year career. He's also the career leader in walks (2795).

He was definitely a great pitcher, a well deserved Hall of Famer... but for lists like these, he doesn't even come close in my opinion. Walter Johnson, Bob Gibson, Cy Young, Christy Mathewson, Grover Alexander, Warren Spahn, Greg Maddux, Randy Johnson, Tom Seaver, Lefty Grove... they're all better than him, if you asked me personally.

I found your list to be fairly similar to what mine would be although I believe you underrate Ty Cobb. Of the original five players inducted in the first year of the Baseball Hall of Fame, Cobb was voted in as # 1. Babe Ruth was also one of the original five, but at that time Cobb was the superior baseball player. Ruth's more glamorous home-run records and him being a former-Yankee for most of his prime, helped make his fame grow even bigger as the years passed while Cobb and his outstanding acheivements have been slowly receding every year, with both the sports-media and in the public mind.
