The Hornets: Coming to a City Near You in 09

The Hornets recently announced a new lease deal with the State for the New Orleans Arena committing the team to the city through 2014.  However, the lease allows the team to terminate if the Hornets don't draw an average paid attendance of 14,735 through the end of next season.  Since that hasn't happened and isn't likely to happen, let's start thinking about where the team will be located when the 2009 season opens.  Can anyone say Seattle Hornets?  How about a franchise swap with the Sonics so the Hornets end up in OKC and Shinn ends up in Seattle.  Ok, Seattle is still a loser but at least it has a team.

What I can't believe is New Orleans actually got a second chance after losing the Jazz. I think its New Orleans that's the loser.

David Stern won't let a team move to Las Vegas. He's too worried about the implications of having an NBA franchise in a gambling city.

Next thing you know, referees could start fixing the games because they were gambling.

After the team's stay in OKC, Stern said that city deserved a franchise and that city's that have failed to support franchises in the past do not deserve second shots. So this could be it for both Seattle and New Orleans. OKC will get a team long before Vegas. Although it would be the first top flight pro team for a city with more money there is more long term support in OKC. Look at other single sport small market cities. Whatever team goes to OKC will find a very good home.
