AGM Linebacker and I will bring the pain.

I'm a sports fanatic. I hail from Nelson County Virginia, and thats where I learned to be a Virginia Cavalier fan. I also learned to be a Dallas Cowboys fan because I hated how good the Redskins were doing. I've played sports at almost every level with the exception of being a fulltime professional, as a result I have a great perception on the sporting world. I love to talk sports and I've never been shy to share my opinion with someone.

The Eastern Conference vs. The Western Conference: Two Paths to Success

For the past decade there has been an obvious difference between the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference in the NBA. For the most part this has always played out with the quality of the play on the court, with the West dominating the East. However, this year there is another split emerging between the conferences and it is being played out in the conference semi-finals.

In the East we are seeing the experience and the poise of the Detroit Pistons step forward as they assert their authority over the upstart Orlando Magic. In the first round of the playoffs Detroit was the laziest team in the NBA and allowed the 76’ers to stick around dangerously too long. However in games five and six of that series the Pistons got their act together and made easy work of the young Philly crew. Perhaps that was just the wake up call they needed to get the team jumpstarted for the second round. In game one against the Orlando Magic, it wasn’t a question the Pistons were the best team on the court and they dominated Howard and company. Game two was a bit closer and the Pistons got some help from poor clock management but all in all the best team won game two.

The Pistons know this story and for the past four years, they have made the trek through the Eastern Conference and into the Conference Finals or the NBA Finals. On the other hand, the Magic haven’t had this much success since the Shaq and Penny days. And right now, the Magic just don’t have enough in the tank to handle the intensity and the talent level of the Detroit Pistons. In the Eastern Conference the Pistons continue to set the standard.

In the Western Conference we are seeing a completely different story play out. The defending champion San Antonio Spurs have met their match again (this happens every other year). This time it is the New Orleans Hornets led by Chris Paul. The Hornets have absolutely dominated the Spurs in the first two games of this series and they have done it with their smothering defense. Chris Paul is simply playing at a different level than everyone else in the league (he should have been the MVP). The Spurs appear shell shocked by what’s happened to them. Simply put they have no answer for the Hornets. For all intents and purposes I feel comfortable saying the Spurs are ready to pass the torch, but due their one year on one year off history, I will withhold judgment, but N.O. is nipping at their heels.

Two conferences two completely different recipes for success, and no correct answer for which path is the right one. No matter what, it is good for the NBA that some new faces and new talents are emerging and becoming familiar names. Because it will not be long before Paul and Howard replace Billups and Duncan.

Kobe and Paul should've been Co-MVPs so we could get that out of the way.

I hate when they say Bryant is overrated because he doesn't make his teammates better or that he is a ballhog. It's a catch 22. If he passes it too much and they lose, it's his fault for not taking over. If he has an off night but keeps shooting, then he is a ballhog. Maybe you guys should talk about how well he works with Pau Gasol, and how Lamar Odom has had a much better year than in past seasons.

Same rule applies to LeBron James (see, game 1 and game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals at Detroit).

To your article, I picked the Spurs because...well...I don't know why, because it was a safe pick? I think Byron Scott has found a way to get through that defense, while at the same time, playing solid D themselves.

Tyson Chandler is straight up owning Tim Duncan. They are forcing San Antonio to a jumpshot. It makes you wonder why Duncan was steamrolling over Stoudemire and Shaq doesn't it?

Chris Paul is just ridiculous. Scores inside and outside and passes it around and....I see multiple MVPs in the future for him.

Julian Wright is earning his minutes. Did you see that behind the back move he put on Brent Barry? He has been crucial in this series and he's worked on that outside shot, making 2 from downtown.

Peja Stojakovic is reaching into his days as a Sacramento King. He is just lights out from three point range, which is another key in this series. The Hornets are taking less threes, but making them. San Antonio has shot something like 55 three pointers and haven't made 15.

Manu Ginobili is being thrown off of his game, he turned it over at least 5 times last night and all of his fancy traveling er....two steps aren't working anymore.

The defending champs are on the ropes, one home loss and they are done.

The Pistons/Magic game 2 is somewhat controversial. The Billups shot should have never counted and that would've changed the whole complexity of the game. Orlando would be up by 1 and with momentum, instead of down 2. The NBA needs to look into that and see what they can do in the future.

Jason Maxiell is really smothering Dwight Howard, and Orlando automatically loses presence inside the paint.

The one thing that concerns me about Detroit is that they have now given up another double digit lead, and now they have to go on the road, up 2-0. Remember what has happened recently when up 2-0? Remember Detroit?

Nice article BigPPup....let's see what happens in game 3.

The Billups shot should not have counted but if I remember correctly the Magic also went 6-24 from the field in the third so that had more to do with the lost. The Hornets have a great gameplan against the Spurs and they have kep ths Spurs big 3 in check. I dont think that NO is the truth and the next big thing in basketball but I believe they are well on their way.
