Sox play 13 at Camden, get win

The Boston Red Sox took advantage of some really sloppy defense and were able to walk away from the Baltimore Orioles with a 5-2 win in the first game of the series. The Sox scored three runs in the 13th inning, two of them came when Baltimore shortstop Freddie Bynum threw the third out into the dug out.

It was a very long game with a lot of errors and a lot hits. As the Red Sox took the win with 5 runs on 10 hits and committed 2 errors. While the hometown team scored 2 runs on 8 hits and committed 4 errors.

Both teams will need a strong outing from their starters tomorrow as the Sox used 7 pitchers and the Orioles also used 7 pitchers. The Sox got a strong six innings from Josh Beckett; he allowed four hits and two runs. The Sox got two innings from Hideki Okajima, one inning from Manny Delcarmen, a third of an inning from Lopez, an inning and two thirds from Craig Hansen, an inning from Mike Timlin (who picked up his third win of the season), and Jonathan Papelbon picked up his 15th save of the season.

While on the other side of the ball the Orioles got seven innings from Daniel Cabrera, allowing six hits and two runs. They also got an inning from Johnson, and inning from the closer George Sherrill, three big innings from Matt Albers, a third of inning from Jamie Walker, they had Chad Bradford pitch two to three batters in the 13th and Dennis Sarfate pitch the last two thirds of the 13th inning.

The last two runs were unearned but driven in by Coco Crisp, he does not get RBI credits for those however. Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits and stole three bases as he led the Sox to a new team record. The Sox stole 6 bases: three from Ellsbury, one from Crisp, one from Kevin Youkilis, and one from Mike Lowell. Crisp was also caught stealing.

It was a very entertaining game and the two teams will square off once again tomorrow, at 7 PM. On a side note, the Sox put Dice-K on the disabled list with a shoulder strain. Manny Ramirez also celebrated his birthday, but could not push his 500th homer over the wall; he will take another crack at it tomorrow.

"Camden" is in New Jersey, "Camden Yards" is in Baltimore. HUMONGOUS DIFFERENCE - please get it right.

BTW, the stadium is called "Oriole Park" (at Camden Yards) anyway...

And either way, THE RED SOX ARE STILL IN SECOND PLACE!!!!

My buddy was at the game...

Its disgusting (on the Os part) that there are so many sox fans there...too see so many of them cheering (wildly) over Manny's 500th made me sick to my stomach...

I have no doubt the Os fans would have applauded nicely...but such a display just furthers my negative opinion of Peter Angelos

Bravo to those remaining Os fans who respected Ramirez and boo to the sox fans who so negatively attacked many Os fans in their home park...

In cases like these, its ashame such a small few reuin my opinion of the many...especially when most of them probably just jumped on the bandwagon...
