So That's Why the Kings Never Won!

As seen on 3rdstringsafety.com

I was a huge fan of that Kings team. Mike Bibby and Chris Webber were two of my favorite players in the league, and Vlade Divac was always good for a laugh due to his tendency to have the world’s most hysterical flops.

This whole thing with former referee Tim Donaghy has to be troubling for the NBA. Many media people who were at the sixth game of the Kings-Lakers series where the Lake Show took something like 25 foul shots in the final quarter of play to win the game are going on TV and saying that everyone thought something was a little weird following the game. That’s bad.

However, would anyone really be shocked if this was true? The rumors that have flown around the NBA since the Knicks getting Patrick Ewing and the “frozen envelope” have to come from somewhere. They don’t exist in any other sports. It’s only the NBA.

It’s such a shame too because it’s taking away the attention from a pretty good year for the league. The Finals have been fairly entertaining so far and with the amount of talent currently in the association, things were definitely looking up.

While I don’t believe Tim Donaghy, the fact that anyone might is very troubling for the NBA.

David Stern is acting as if it has never happened, and I think he should resign.....

Frankly I'm not shocked, sports is a business here, look at the point shaving scandal of 1951, and whatever the Italians do in their soccer leagues.

The Kings also didn't win because they messed up game 4 when up by 20 (and that Samaki Walker bomb should've never counted), and lost AT HOME because Floppy Divac was owned by Shaq in game 7.

I think some of the things Donagy has said are quite true. The thing is, he knows he's going down. So if he inflates a few things, it's good vengence for him.

The NBA is a mess and has been for 15 years.

P.S. the Kings were screwed over big time. LA wasn't going to be allowed to lose to anyone, just like the Bulls.

Very rare to have any NBA game decided by one call unless it ends the game. Russell's block of Laker guard Frank Selvi was one instance when no question block was illegal, can't pin the ball on the backboard but Russell did it a lot and got away with it because he was one of the stars of the growing league. The Kings game wasn't really decided on one play but if you watch the game replay there are some very questionable calls both ways. Look at some of the calls that Jordan got when he was plainly in the wrong. One of the biggest was in the NBA highlights he seen pushing off with his left arm and hand and then turning to shoot and score the winning basket. There is a very high possiblity that Donaghy is telling the truth, especially as he sees it, but something has to be done because Sterns is out of control. He really thinks he doesn't have to report to anyone or anybody. He DOES REPORT to the FANS. He has done good as leader of the league but right now by not getting to the real cause of all this is hurting him and the NBA in general. A lot of babyboomers have turned away from the NBA because of all the crap that is starting to come out and people of all ages, walks of life are in my opinion had it with the constant troubles within the league the players attitudes, andthe amounts of money they make for the crap they do and say. Not to many years ago the league players were looked up to by kids and parents alike, but now you can almost count on one hand the players I think deserve that kind of respect. The leagues misses players like Kareem, Magic, Bird, McHale, Wilt, Walt Frazier, Bob L.,Pettit, Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, Russell, Jones, Bing, the list could go on and on. After games then these players with the exception of Russell, would stand and sign autographs for hours and talk basketball to the kids and parents. Whatever happened to that kind of respect and love of the game. One of the biggest problems and it has been talked about on these articles for longer than they have been around is money. To much to fast and without regard to the anything or anybody. Drugs and other illegal substances are another large factor in what is happening not just to the NBA but all professional and some college sports. We blame the refs because of this type of situation with someone like Dongahy but there maybe others and that is what Sterns has to find out now not tomorrow not next week but now so he can satisfy the fans that the sport is on the up and up. Maybe I am going overboard but as a fan in general of sports and what they have done for all of us over the years I say again I for one want to know the truth. Be it good or bad just the plain truth and if something is going on then make it right. I honestly don't think that that is asking to much.
