So.....What Should We Do With Tiger Woods?

Golf Channel anchor Kelly Tilghman and some dude to the right of her were having a discussion on how the younger golfers can compete with the almighty Tiger Woods. The guy said they should gang up on him. Funny, innocent, but what about you Tilghman?

I was thinking make him sit at the back of a bus, but lynching is fine. She has since been suspended for her "racist" remarks, and she is now free for all of you!

How do you even remotely say that? Did she even know about Emmitt Till in middle school? Oh well, another day, another sports media person getting suspended. Ta ta for now.

But why would you say that? If Al Sharpton was a golfer then screw the elections.

Anytime a white person references the lynching of a black male, it will raise eyebrows, and justly so. There is no way or reason she could have thought that was an appropiate statment to make. Tiger Woods is too quiet and too softspoken and too concerned with saying the right thing to grow a pair and speak out against racism.

++++++++++++++++. Tiger is cool with that, but that doesn't mean everyone else is cool with a statement involving that subject matter.

Tiger Woods has molded himself after Michael Jordan when it comes to issues in this regard, he will do what is best for him as an ambassador and a spokesman, not what is best for him as a Black male.

ahh, i just finished writing a research paper on lynching...namely focused on explaining the philosophy behind it as well as (and this was my main focus) the three major pieces of legislation in 1921, 1930-something and 1942 (yep, 65 years ago) that were to make lynching illegal..,

They were shot down in the senate

Most interestingly, I reviewed some congressional records regarding the conversations...you'd be surprised what was said...on the floor of the US senate

and while the growth that has taken place in the last 65 years is major, it still goes to show where our society was, is and what is still left to be worked on(IMO)...

almost 4750 seperate lynchings occured between the 1882 and 1968 (yes, one occured in 1968)

and there rational for lynching was...heh, this is amusing:

among the typical accusations of rape, murder, etc..."frightening a white women, entering a white woman's room, living with a white women, insulting a white woman..." and so on...

man, this was an interesting thing to write...

I think everybody is jumping to the conclusion that simply because Tiger didn't say something or lash out that he's accepting it and is at worst, ok with it. Allow me to give Tiger the benefit of the doubt. You think that while being an African-American trying to break into the world of golf, Tiger Woods isn't absolutely disgusted or pissed on the inside about it. Put yourself in his shoes. I encourage you guys to read Charles Barkley's book "Who's Afraid of a Large Black Man". In it, he interviews Tiger Woods on issues such as racism and Tiger speaks candidly about it. Absolutely, the comment is an offense to each and every African-American born today and yesterday. But we cannot ASSUME that Tiger is OK with the comment just because he hasn't spoken candidly against it.

Tiger's OK with it because he said so, he knows the context to which it was said, and, it should be pointed out, it is not the first time the reference has been used. Brad Faxon said something similar a couple years ago and nobody gave a damn. And considering Tiger is part owner of the golf channel, it is entirely possible Tilghman's suspension is because she technically made a negative comment to Tiger the boss as opposed to Tiger the African American or Tiger the golfer.

well that and he's too busy winning tournaments and majors and stuff...

and making a boat load of cash

and having a hot wife...oh and a kid

and generally being a pretty good person

you could argue...that he's just too busy to care and doesn't want to give attention to something that, basically, doesn't deserve it...

I don't like the idea of lynching anyone, mainly because the practice of hanging someone for a crime before due process for the purpose of scaring others is terrorism. But also because it's a nasty practice and it brings up some ugly times in our history.

What I really hate about this is that if she had said "taken out back and beaten" or "taken out back and shot" nobody would be making the issue out of this that it became, no one would of noticed or cared.

It wasn't the actions she was suggesting that people took issue with (and what they really should of taken issue with) it was the choice of words in reference to a golfer who happens to be black.
