Should Floyd Mayweather Wrestle?

As you may or may not have heard Floyd Mayweather will be a participant in Wrestlemania XXIV next month at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando. For his participation in Wrestlemania, Mayweather will receive a $20 million dollar pay day. Now we get that he is doing this for the money and that wrestling is fake so he is not likely to get hurt. On the flip side of that he is actually going to wrestle someone one on one he will not be a manager a la "Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart or a bodyguard like Virgil was to the Million Dollar Man. The man he will be wrestling, "The Big Show", from our research ways 400 lbs and Floyd is in the 150 range. If this match deviates from the "script" and Floyd gets slammed the wrong way, sat on in the wrong place, or for heavens sake breaks his hand while punching "The Big Show", what then? Mayweather is one of the few things boxing has going for it right now and the sport itself would not be able to withstand something unforeseen happening to arguably its biggest star.

If Mayweather was retired then this would be a great move for him. The thing is that Mayweather is super popular and has plenty of money so why risk your future boxing legacy on a WWE match? We know Mayweather fans that were ticked off when he was to appear on Dancing with the Stars feeling he could possibly get injured, we wonder how nervous they will be when he is wrestling a 400 pound behemoth. The timing of this appearance is a little strange from the fact that Mayweather is supposed to fight Oscar De La Hoya in a rematch this upcoming September. This will be the sequel to their epic bout of last May in which Mayweather won by a split decision. So now that we have stated our feelings on this issue, we ask you is it a good idea for Mayweather to make this WWE appearance?

The best "pound for pound" professional boxer in his prime should be prize fighting against the best in his weight class, not wasting time with this stupid bullshit.

Maybe, but there's two things to consider.

1) Wrestling's fake. No chance he even sniffs getting hurt. He shows up, runs around for a couple minutes, fake pins the 7' dude, and collects. Even coke dealers work harder.

2) What if de la Hoya wants no part of another ass-whippin'?

Sure, the WWE is "entertainment" (and I use that term loosely, I'm not a fan) but the antics still puts wear and tear on the body. Vince McMahon is a businessman/parasite first and for $20 million, is going to want a little more than Mayweather running around in spandex.

The rematch is set for September. Murphy's Law is just being tempted with this dumb wrestling gig before the second De La Hoya fight. Why risk?

The sport of boxing is crying for somebody to step and act like a friggin' professional. Mayweather is a tremendous fighter but has acted like an ass ever since the HBO documentary series on his training for the first De La Hoya fight. At first, it just seemed like he was overeager to play the role of the heel. That might work when you are young. But careers in boxing are short and he will find out later that this dumb shit comes back to haunt.

Just my opinion.

Mayweather will prob still beat De La Hoya but why even risk not being as prepared as possible for that fight?

de la Hoya said he wants to fight three more times, with Mayweather the final fight, probably towards Christmas. If I'm him, I work my ass off and fight him in June, and win or lose I walk. What does fighting a couple tomato cans going to prove?

Credibility - which is in dire shortage in the world of boxing. I dunno, it just seems so stupid to me. The guy has a God given ability to being a terrific prize fighter. Why risk? If you were his agent, would you really recommend this venture?
