Senile Not Hardly!

Someone wrote that I was senile because of my age and maybe some of my attitudes. Just because someone is older than you are by a fair amount of years and has experienced a whole lot more than you have and have known more different types of individuals from many different walks of life and cultures doesn't make then senile by any means. In some of my stories, there are mistakes written by me not because I am senile or forgetful, but because my hands don't work as fast as my brain when I am typing. And I do take exception to being called senile because you may think my stories are boring and strange and that nobody wants to read about them. That I can understand very well. Being almost 90 years old, I can't do all the things I used to, but I can still shoot 90% from the freethrow line even today. I can hit a slow pitched baseball or softball with maybe not the same power as before, but with the same level swing I have had for all these 89 years. My mind is as sharp as it ever was and if need be I can still get up in front of a group of students and lecture for at least an hour on a number of subjects from U.S. History to Mesopatamia/Greek and Roman, which I taught at the university level for over 25 years. I am a proud veteran of a number of our wars and what I am most proud of is I am the father of 4, grandfather of 12 and great-grandfather of 16 and soon to be great-great-grandfather of either one or two if she has twins. Please, you may call me a lot of things, but senile, stupid, or dumb isn't one of them. I will stake my credentials up against anyone one to one, and believe me, when I say I will always be standing proudly with my old head held high. I may be old by standards of time and even physical abilities, but in my mind and heart I am still a very young man today.

I want to thank everyone who has written something meaningful about my stories and experiences and I can only hope that more interesting people would still like to hear something the older generation has to say.

The Oldest Man (still young at heart)

Who's calling you senile?

I, for one, will gladly read your stories.

Look here, Cheezer. You probably won't be terribly surprised. Oldest man, keep the stories coming and nevermind the nonsense.

That was completely out of line for someone to call you senile. Your articles are extremely interesting particularly when you write about seeing the famous baseball players in your youth. I wish we lived in the same city so I could ask you hundreds of questions about those players.

The individual knows so we will leave it lay or is it lie. Doesn't matter much because if only I know I am not senile that's all that counts.

Anyone who calls you "senile" is dumb for thinking it (and three times as dumb for saying it).

People who don't respect their elder's knowledge and experiences prove that they will never learn from their own!

I, for one enjoy your insights and opinions The Oldest Man - I am a HUGE fan of your work (even though we don't agree on everything - then again WHY would ANYONE want to agree with me on everything?) =P

I think you're a wonderful contributor to the community and a sports fan in the truest sense. Anyone who says a disparaging word about you is not only a fool who likes to see their words splattered everywhere they go on the internet but also just a plain damned fool in general.

Keep 'em coming!!! You are a Lion of Sports culture and history compared to us little kitties! I'm only in my mid 30's and I've seen history repeat itself so many times already, I can't imagine the reference points that are stored in your mind!!!

Write for/about YOUR passions and ignore the ignorance of the mental midgets - it's a tiny, utterly insignificant minority - no matter how loud or often it might spew it's verbal diarrhea.

I line up behind Manny (and of course You, Oldest Man) on this one 100%.

For starters, the fact that you've lived long enough to be "the oldest man" AND are capable of using the internet and computer so fluidly is to be commended. My mom is 45 and I still have to walk her through Cut and Paste every flipping time!

Anyway, I'm impressed by your participation, I'm inspired and interested in your stories and I thank you for your service to the country.

Oldest Man, you are one of my favorite writers and you frankly, should have more sports knowledge than anyone on this site.

You aren't senile at all, don't let that guy get to your head, he's consistently proved he is nothing but an internet troll.

Keep on writing The Oldest Man and we'll keep reading.

guys I am not that fluid on a computer. It takes me a very long time to write so of the articles. My hands start to hurt and then I have to quit and I make mistakes spelling because my hands don't always follow my brain. To really do any length articles over one page I have to compose it on paper and then type it in the computer armchair site. Thank you all for listening or reading and I will continue to write when I can.
