Sabres keep hopes alive

The Buffalo Sabres managed to remain alive in the playoff race by taking the Boston Bruins to overtime and finishing the job.

David Krejci and the Bruins came out as if they were going to run away with the game when Milan Lucic took a double minor penalty for high sticking just two minutes into the game and David Krejci picked off a Buffalo pass and skated all the way down to the Sabres zone and then rifled a wrist shot in the direction of the net that tipped off of Ryan Miller and trickled into the goal.

The Buffalo Sabres managed to get back into the game with a power play goal about eight minutes later. Toni Lydman tipped in a shot by Paul Gaustad. The game then remained tied with great goaltending by Alex Auld who stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced and Ryan Miller who stopped 17 of 18 shots that he faced.

With the one point the Bruins moved into a tie with the Flyers and the Rangers with one point each. With the win the Sabres kept their playoff hopes alive moving within five points of the Bruins for eighth place. The Sabres must win out the rest of their games. They play the Maple Leafs, Canadians and Bruins again. The Bruins play the Devils, Senators and Sabres to end the season. If the Bruins win at least two of those game they should be set for the playoffs. They are tied with the Flyers and Rangers and have could finish anywhere from 5th place in the conference to not in playoffs.
