Alright i've had enough of the Giants and it's not even training camp yet. Listen, I can't stand that team up there in the NY. Eli Manning the prodigal son who is probably one of the most overrated quarterbacks in the NFL other than Michael Vick decides that he finally wants to be leader. Wow, everybody clap your hands for Mr. Leadership himself Eli Manning. Give me a break, this is coming from the guy who ran away and complained from the dream QB position in San Diego to go the big apple to get drilled.

He said on draft day when he got traded to Giants that he was ready to step up and be a leader, what happened? I think I know, he knew a couple weeks into the season that he made a mistake, let me go over these.

1. Things aren't always greener in New York, especially when your number one pick to be a franchise QB for the New York Giants.

2. He realized what he gave up in San Diego by turning down arguably the greatest running back ever in LT, then Gates, and not to mention their defense.

3. He's mentally capable to deal with the mass media and hysteria that comes with being a potential savior/superstar in New York City, just ask A-Rod how he's sleeping.

4. He's not his brother, who is potentially going to break every QB record there is.

This guy goes out and says that "his" team will be fine without Tiki Barber, ha, let me just grasp that for a moment......ok now i'm ready to believe that I dont even think Eli knows that crap flows out of his mouth when he talks. They will barely finish as .500, i'm sorry Giant fans, prove me wrong! They might even have trouble fighting off the Redskins for 3rd or 4th place. It's a sad day in New York when Eli Manning says it's time for him to grow a set and be a leader.

I probably won't even come back to this page since I found it by accident, but after reading these comments I sit here laughing at all you people who think you know everything!! Umm... let me see, Giants AND Eli Manning going to SUPERBOWL XVII. And, doing so on a 10 straight road win streak... including three playoff games. Eat crow people, eat crow!! I would love to see just one of these people who were trashing Eli to admit THEY WERE WRONG! See ya at the Superbowl.

I agree Josh. I am sick of hearing about it. He may have been inconsistant in his first two full seasons, but he has still had those games where he took over and won them.

To quote Mr. Skywalker - "There is still good in him"

It's refreshing to see a New York fan atleast admit Eli is mediocre. What is really going to be entertaining is when he goes from mediocre to awful this year when people realize that Tiki Barber's success was his smokescreen. Now he's gone and left with "Laxico" and Shockey to deal with. Good luck Eli.

It's amazing how different how different Eli and Peyton are. Eli is so uncomfortable with his situation, a crappy coach, a big city, a ruthless fan base. Peyton has made himself into one of the all-time greats, playing in a smaller market with a good coach, bringing the franchise its first championship. Eli was not made for a big city; he would have been better off in SD.

Giants fans aren't ruthless. It's strange, as New Yorkers you would expect us to be so, but we're not. Giants fans are, in general, way more sedate and calm than Jets fans.

Coughlin does suck, the line is mediocre, the running game is weaker, and Eli's just not that good. I also don't think he inherited his brother's calmness. He'd be better as a backup.

I wise man once said that Eli Manny would be the biggest disappointment along with Brady Quinn since the Leaf era. Respect that man. Any man who has taken a bullet to the groin to save my life is a man I'll surf with. And to you Meg, Eli was meant to be a farmer not a QB.

Another interesting thing...do you ever hear Peyton defend Eli? It's almost like he knows Eli wasn't meant for this, but he just kind of waits until Eli figures this out himself. Peyton doesn't get asked a lot of questions about Eli, but still, he has to hear all the shit people say about Eli. There has to be a big brother in him that says, that's not fair, if he wasn't my brother, he wouldn't be under all this pressure, or he may not be in the league in the first place...

Would he have gone as high as he did had he not shared the Manning last name? Of course not. But he would most certainly be in this league just based on his performance at Ole Miss.

Let's not forget who the Chargers got in return for Eli Manning when all was said and done.

Rights to 2004 4th Overall Pick - Used to sign Quarterback Philip Rivers. (Pro Bowl) 2005 1st Round Draft Pick - Used to draft and sign Linebacker Shawne Merriman. (Pro Bowl)

2004 3rd Round Draft Pick - Used to draft and sign Kicker Nate Kaeding. (Pro Bowl)

This post makes absolutely no sense. I am a diehard Giants fan and while I know Eli is not and will never be a leader, I will never tell him to shutup for trying. How dumb do you have to be to call out Eli for doing something he should have done three years ago. I hate his facial expressions when he throws that 3rd and 7 ball at Shockey's feet or in the opponents arms but I also know that as awful as he has been, and he has been bad, he has thrown 24 touchdowns in each of his first two seasons. He has a far way to go to being even mentioned in the same breath as his brother but you are either an Eagle Fan or just an idiot to suggest Eli "should not try and be a leader" if he does not try this year than he will never have his chance. I loved what Tiki brought to this team and the skill he had was remarkable yet I always felt Eli was intimidated by him. Tiki would always refer to Eli as Elijah claiming he was to be the savior of the franchise in his rookie season. Tiki obviously was outspoken and now that he is gone Eli realizes he has the oppurtunity to grab this locker room and rally them around him so I will not tell him to shutup but I will instead commend him for trying to lead a Giant team that, at the moment, does not look like it will be making it to the playoffs for the 3rd straight year.

Its not about Eli that much, its easy to pick on him becuase his name is Manning. But he has led his team (even if inconsistantly) to the playoffs 2 years in a row. Last QB to do that for the giants? Phil Simms. Ive been a giants fan for a long time and i remember the days of Dave Brown, Kent Graham, Denny Kannell, Kerry Collins. Are those options better? No. Let the young QB develop, it took phil simms 6 years b4 he won anything. This year is all about the running back in every defense's nightmares. BRANDON JACOBS. He's bigger and faster than you.

I think the biggest issue with NFL fans is that they fail to recognize the different learning curve for QBs compared to the rest of the positions in the game. Eli has only played two full seasons. He probably has another 10 in him. If I were a betting man (or, rather, if I had money to bet) I'd say that Eli has more wins than losses against Philly if he plays at least the next three years with the Giants.

What a great commentary! I've been a huge Giants fan since the 60's, and this person summed it up perfectly about Elmer Manning. Elmer's on the verge of making Dave Brown and Scott Brunner look like good quarterbacks! There's no doubt that he's one of the biggest mistakes in NFL history.

Everyone needs to stop bashing Eli. Maybe he hasn't been consistant in his frist few years but he has improved. If his last name wasn't Manning nobody would give a shit if he was a mediocore QB. He will be a great QB just look at the two games against the Patriots and the playoff game against the Bucs, his frist playoff win and he was consistant. Sometimes its hard to be a great QB when your receivers don't catch balls that are catchable or when your defense can't stop anyone. I'm sorry but the Giants defense is overrated and I am a Giants fans. If Eli is stepping up as a leader why are you going to criticize him? Just because he isn't screaming at people on the sideline doesn't mean he isn't leading the team. We don't know what he does when the camaras aren't on him.
