Roger Federer the best tennis player of the history of tennis!

The Swiss tennis player starting at the age of eight, taking lessons to become a greater player. In 1998 he started to play professionally, winning his first Grand slam in the year of 2003 in Wimbledon. He has now won 14 career grand slams:

1. Wimbledon: 5 times
2. Australian Open: 3 times
3. U.S Open: 5 times
4. French Open: 1 time

With a total of 14 titles, which ties him with Pete Sampras for the most career grand slams. Recently he won his first French Open, beating Robin Soderling on clay in 2009. This made him become the youngest tennis player in the world to win all five grand slams.

Federer is the only player in tennis history to win at least five consecutive titles at two different Grand Slam tournaments (2003-07 Wimbledon, 2004-08 US Open). He is also the only player in tennis history to win the same two Grand Slam tournaments back to back for four consecutive years (2004-07). He is also the only one to win at least two Grand Slam titles for four consecutive years (2004-2007). Sampras is the only other man to win two Grand Slams in a calendar year four different times (1993-95, 1997), but unlike Federer, they were not won in consecutive years. He has won at least one Grand Slam title for the past seven years (2003-09), and he is the first tennis player to be ranked No. 1 for more than 200 consecutive weeks.

With all of this being said, he is said to be the best tennis player of the history of tennis, and I agree with that statement. I think he's the smartest player in tennis and he plays with tremendous effort and with unique techniques. This proves that power isn't really needed in tennis and all you need is to use your brains. This, to me, shows that he is the best player in the history of tennis.

As much of a Rafael Nadal fan I am (and how much I hate to say this), I'd have to agree with you on this topic, Salman... at least some day (maybe even soon). The thing that makes me hesitant is the fact that it can be argued that Sampras has a better career than Federer, and that Federer can still have time to show that he's not great. Sampras owned Andre Agassi (easily considered to be in the top 10 tennis players of all time), and was ranked #1 in the world for 6 consecutive years. There are lots of things you could say about Sampras, but like you stated in your article, I echo that he will be the best tennis player of all time. He'll be the Wayne Gretzky of tennis...

Didn't Federer defeat Sampras in the fourth round at Wimbledon several years back?? Federer still has plenty of time to pass Sampras as the greatest of all-time and, like you said, it will happen.

well, They already are saying he is the best player of all time...still being young and as well having Rafael Nadal that is trying to break Federer down...but he still manages to get up and show the world what kind of a tennis player he is, and that's an amazing one i say. Sampras is still in the histories of tennis but i think people would know federer more in mere future...

I still am wondering who in the hell he has defeated besides Nadal. Nobody in tennis even in the same league as Sampras and the others during and before him...It took Federer 5 long sets to defeat Sampras awhile back and Pete hadn't been in a match since he left tennis. Tennis isn't anywhere near what it was during the era of all the great tennis stars competing against each other for years from Pancho to Jimmy to Andre to Mac some many others. I would be remiss if I even mentioned Federer in the same league as half the above mentioned individuals. Rod would have torn him a new one and Jimmy would be returning his shots even today. Mac is Mac and it took a injury to defeat Nadal on clay before Federer won the French.

Then Rocky Marciano should even be mentioned in the same breath as any of the other greats?

Its always a question of, "did he blow everyone away" or "was no one else very good at all" when you see a player like this

You might be able to say the same about Tiger woods too
