Pats All Folks: Looking Ahead.....

I will no longer comment on any Super Bowl choke jobs or any sonofabitch that made any lucky catches. It's time to start fresh and look ahead to the Pats in 2008-2009. Stealing a page from SSR & Hoch So its time to examine some burning questions of the Patriots this offseason.

Two franchise players in Asante Samuel and Randy Moss hard to envision both being back? Who stays?

Thats a tough one, but I would think they keep Moss. They wanted to sign Moss to an extension earlier but they wasn't allowed to renegotiate a renegotiated contract in the same season. I expected Asante to bail last year especially after that Nate Clements deal. Samuel and Moss are looking for different things Samuel got the rings and may go after the big bucks and Moss got the big bucks and wants the rings.

With the 7th pick in the NFL Draft, the New England Patriots select....

Mike Jenkins, USF. If there's any position that has widely varying grades in this draft, it's cornerback. Like I said Asante is as good as gone and Jenkins can come in and start right away, of course if there is an unlikely drop of a Glenn Dorsey, Jake Long or even Darren McFadden the Patriots will grab them up quickly but I think the Pats grab Jenkins and address LB later on in the draft

What about Donte Stallworth is he as good as gone?

More than likely yes, I'm sure Stallworth was unhappy about going from #1 reciever to #3 or 4 this season. I think he bails and gets overcompensated by Jacksonville or Tennessee.

Will there be further fallout from the latest round of "Spygate" allegations?

The NFL owes it to their fans to at least investigate but unlike the MLB the NFL can hold their own without congress intervention. I'm sure this will blow over soon.

Bruschi,Harrison,Seau...do they call it a career?

Seau should be finished indefinitely at 39, if he even starts next season it's simply out of respect or an injury. I think Rodney and Bruschi give it another go.

19-0 Is it possible?

Possible but I think most teams will be turned off to even attempt such a feat. As for the Patriots they may have lost their desire to go after 19-0, they will get 6 wins handed to them via a pansy division, its Peyton's turn to win the regular season battle and they'll slip up to a horrible team next season. But hey 17-2 and a ring trumps 18-1 anytime

That's what Bud Selig and MLB once thought concerning steroids.

You never know. Rodney Harrison just might write a tell-all book about Bill Belichick.

The MLB has made itself clear that Bud Selig handles controversy like crap..... The NFL....I don't know, I'm suspicious about Goodell destroying those tapes.

Of course you are. The NFL's explanation that they wanted to ensure other teams that they were not being used is just a cover-up, right?

Moss will probably get the franchise tag. By agreement, Samuel cannot be tagged again. He's probably gone as the offers from other teams will be ludicrously high for him.

I think the Patriots trade the 7th round pick. That's typically their MO with early picks. They cost too much against the cap, and it's just as much as a crapshoot as the rest of the draft.

I hope Bruschi and Seau retire. Harrison can still play, but Bruschi and Seau are no longer playmakers. They're not bad, but they just lack that extra step to make big plays at big times.

Don't forget the RB situation. Morris and Maroney both healthy will make Pats fans very happy next year.

Moss is gone...he'll turn this season into the 3 year, 40 million deal he's always wanted, and he'll never get that frp, the Pats.

Once again, Kelsdad, a truly great, well-formulated, coherant argument.</sarcasm> Why exactly wouldn't the Patriots put a franchise tag on Moss?

Did you not watch him in the Super Bowl? Being a Minnesota guy, I've seen Moss play for almost his entire career. I have never seen him as happy as when he caught that TD pass in the Super Bowl.

He wants that to happen again. This time, he wants it to be the game winner, not a TD in a loss.

And I'd think they'd be willing to break the bank for a year or two to pay for Moss. He's worth it.

And, why wouldn't they use the franchise tag?

I think the pats need to get on the phone with the bengals and find out what they have to pay for Ocho Cinco. I'm sure the pats have a price tag in mind for him, and if it's at all close, I could see them pulling the deal. I don't know what the price tag would be though. He's an amazing WR, but both sides want him out of Cincy. Moss was thought to be washed up, and he was traded for a 4th rounder. Ocho Cinco is still puting up numbers, and isn't as big of a gamble as Moss was. At the very least, the phone call should be made. It does no harm to simply get the asking price for him

The purpose of adding Chad to the Pats would be......? I don't see it. Replace Stalwroth? We already have Kelly Washington to be our 4th WR. Replacing Moss? Maybe, but Johnson is different from Moss and I don't know if he'd fit personality wise. Let me explain: Chad's antics are him having fun, and BB would shut those down and I doubt Chad can eb as business-like as required to fit in NE. It's not that he's a distraction, or a trouble-maker, he just wants to have more fun than the Pats do. So no, Chad Johnson as a Patriot is a bad idea.
