Packers Love Favre but He Retired

On July 11, the Green Bay Packers professional Football franchise released a statement with regards to the ongoing Brett Favre developments. They say:

"The Green Bay Packers are aware of the latest developments regarding Brett Favre.

Brett earned and exercised the right to retire on his terms. We wanted him to return and welcomed him back on more than one occasion.

Brett's press conference and subsequent conversations in the following weeks illustrated his commitment to retirement.

The finality of his decision to retire was accepted by the organization. At that point, the Green Bay Packers made the commitment to move forward with our football team.

As a retired player, Brett has the option to apply for reinstatement with Commissioner Goodell. If that were to occur, he would become an active member of the Green Bay Packers. As always, the Packers will do what's right and in the best interest of the team.

As with all Packers greats, Brett's legacy will always be celebrated by our fans and the organization, regardless of any change in his personal intentions.

Brett and Deanna will always be a part of the Packers family."

Some would interpret it otherwise, but the part where they say they will do what is in the best interest of the team sounds like they are undecided. The word on the street is that the Packers' phone isn't exactly ringing off the wall with suitors for Favre's services.

I sit with my popcorn awaiting their reply to his latest interview and the ensuing carnage.

Regardless of how this turns out, the Packers are doing the right thing. They moved on and are on a path to succeed without Brett Favre. If they simply release him they risk who he goes to as well as get nothing in return. By trading him or forcing him to be the back-up, they can pick and choose what they will do. Favre will not be in a Packer uniform next year and if he plays any where else, it will be in the AFC.

I agree completely. If Thompson were to concede to Favre's wishes he might as well pack his bags, because he'll have lost all control of the team.

I'd love to see Favre back, especially given how fragile Rodgers has been, but not on Favre's terms.

Fragile? Eek... a torn hamstring and a broken foot aren't things you can avoid. It doesn't mean the guy is brittle.

Not to mention there's a ton of people who think Rogers will only be here a year and then Brian Brohm will take over.

I would think that by now, Rodgers is probably trying to figure out why he should stay. There are several teams that would probably take their chances with him. All this Brett stuff must have ticked him off. I wonder if he'd bolt first chance he got? Can't say I wouldn't if it was me.

Two things: Somehow Favre managed to avoid the torn hammy and the broken foot. As do many other quarterbacks. I meant what I said. Until he proves he can make some extended time without getting hurt, I will consider him fragile.

Also put me in the Brohm camp. Rodgers came from the Tedford system. God for college, unproven in the pros.

I've always been a Favre fan, but his antics in the past few days have been downright silly. You retired dude - and there have been a few "one more season" shenanigans with you. The Packers need to look to the future. Sad as it seems, the Favre era is over in Green Bay. At least, it should be...

Favre is becoming downright annoying now. Now he's saying he wants to show up at Packers camp in order to call their bluff. This is becoming downright childish. He is becoming a diva. He might as well dye his hair blonde and wear stilletos.

At least Favre had a good point about Thomspon not being a particularly good GM by not signing Marco Rivera or Mike Wahle. And then the Moss thing. There was a lot of things he was frustrated with, but this is still pretty ridiculous and is tainting a lot of his fan base.

Favre is not being "childish" or the least bit unreasonable. He just wants to play football. Of course he didn't handle the situation well. But that doesn't change the fact that the Packers should welcome him back with open arms, as the far superior QB to Aaron Rogers.

I believe the whole problem lies with Brett's ego. He griped about what he felt were bad descisions made by management. SO WHAT?? You are a quaterback! You are not management! You are a member of a team, not above it! Now after flip flopping endlessly year after year, and being coddled each and every time, someone stood up and said that enough is enough. I'm glad that he's finally being forced to realize that is isn't all about him. The Packers got fed up and finally got the stones to not give in to this whining prima donna. All I can say is 'BOUT TIME!
