There are some things about sports I don't like... the New Yuck Muts, the University of Michigan and those ASSCRACK UGLY HELMETS, the Floridamn Gayturds and the Miami Crimicanes. I also think that NASCRAP and professional wrestling are a HUGE waste of air time on television and would rather watch women's Jello wrestling!

PETA can kiss my !

Last weekend, Eight Belles lost her life when both of her front ankles were broken in the Kentucky Derby. Now PETA, the same people who think meat is murder, is tossing their two cents in, calling for jockey Gabriel Saez to be suspended, contending he should have noticed an injury and pulled the horse up rather than applied the whip and also announced plans to protest the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority on Tuesday, arguing for major changes, including a ban on using the whip or racing horses younger than 3.

This is the same group of zealots that want us to stop eating meat, ban hunting and stop drinking milk. Pamela Anderson Lee is also a member of these zealots. And to think I was actually going to buy that tape of her and Tommy Lee.

PETA, here's my suggestion to you. KISS MY ASS!

Did you ever stop to think that the problem with Eight Belles could be genetic? No, left up to you, everyone in America would be forced to eat nuts and berries and have brittle bones.

Here's my suggestion. Why don't we put you on a desert island somewhere in the Pacific, surrounded by sharks. Then maybe you'll leave the hunters, meat eaters, milk drinkers and those that love horses and horse racing alone.

PETA also suggested that whips be banned. I have to disagree, even though I have only been on a horse three times in my entire life. When you have 10+ horses that close to each other, not having a whip means that you have no control over something that weighs about 1200 pounds (give or take). Let's solve the problems with breeding these animals first. Granted, there is some abuse, I will grant you that. Eight Belles, from what I've heard, is a decendant of Barbaro, which could be part of the problem. We have to be part of the solution. Banning horse racing isn't the answer. The sport has been going on since humankind domesticated the horse. Deal with it.

Be part of the solution, PETA. Not the problem.

PETA just wakes up in the morning, looks at the paper, and says "What can we protest today?" They should stick their noses into the situation with the sea lions being shot, not something they can't stop.

Eight Belles and Barbaro are indeed related, but not that closely. Mr. Prospector, a legendary breeding horse, is the grandsire of Barbaro's dam. He is also the grandsire of Eight Belles' dam and the great-grandsire of Eight Belles' sire. In other words, they're descended partly from the same line but they are only distantly related. Also, kudos for writing this article. There's a difference between what Michael Vick did, which is animal cruelty, and horse racing, which is sport. They should give it a rest.

You are correct with the whip statement. My girlfriend does dressage and with out the whip and or spurs the horse would never listen to her commands. And in horse racing you can not use spurs. It is not like the horse is being beaten, I know that racing and what my girlfriend does are two different things but in both sports you need to control the animal some how. They can be very dangerous if they spook, and the whip is a good way to keep them in control, sounds odd but it is very true

Its laughable that these PETA types are always protesting horse racing, rodeos, chuckwagon racing and such. Do they really think these animals are being mistreated? Those animals are treated better then most people and are truly loved by those that work with them.

Thats the thing about PETA they complain and complain about things and no one cares, then when a national story breaks they turn their bitching up full throttle, they cared about dogfighting but when they heard NFL superstar Michael Vick was tied to it they went all out and now that a horse was euthanized on one of the grandest stage of them all here they go again, had Eight Belles died a couple weeks later they wouldn't even be that concerned

I worked at the St.Louis Zoo for 6 years and we'd see PETA-types all the time. They'd rant and rave about how we "mistreated" the elephants, rhinos...heck...EVERYTHING. We would eventually escort them to the Big Cat Country and let them talk it over with Leo. Funny thing, we never heard much from the trouble-maker after that.

You were going to buy the tape of Pam and Tommy Lee? It's the internet, man. It was free.

Eff PETA right in the A. That being said, I do think the breeding needs to be looked into. Dogs are genetically tested and otherwise tested for medical defects, why not horses. It is a simple solution that we already have the technology for. To be honest, I am a little suprised that with all the money invested in a horse, they don't have the animal tested to see if it is predisposed to anything.

PETA should look into how they make horses buck in the rodeo, now that's cruelty.

... you know, I was going to comment about the Pam & Tommy vid, but I didn't feel pointing out her "meat eating" would be appropriate. Oh wait ...

In honor of PETA I'm off on a interactive vacation where I get to club a baby seal, learn how to calf rope and steer wrestle, ride a thuroughbred, pet a college live animal mascot, visit Michael Vick in prison. All while eating steak & chicken every dinner, eggs & milk for breakfast, fish for lunch. My wardrobe will consist exclusively of leather, fur, and seude. It's called the PETA World Tour, embracing our status as the top of the evolutionary ladder/food chain.

If demand is high I'll start a travel agency. We can book vacations that cater to defaming public interest groups whose primary goal is to annoy the *bleep* out of us all. We'll have PETA cruises, Green Peace driving tours of America (complete with Hummers), and the Al Gore global warming world tour.

I think they're nuts, but they're looking for some attention and to try to make some changes in the sport.

I'm not too sure about the whipping part, but to call for a suspension of the jockey for this incident is ridiculous. What happened is a tragedy, but just that, a tragedy.

I agree with shrubbery - we're the top of the food chain, and eating meat is as natural for us as it is in the animal kingdom.
