Orioles Fans Ejected From the Stadium for "Cheering Too Loudly?!?!"

Yet another example of Peter Angelos and the Orioles organization mistreating the fans occurred last Tuesday. Twenty young men and women were escorted out of Camden Yards because they were cheering too loud. No, I'm not joking. This occurred minutes after they were recognized on the big screen for being "Fans of the Game."

Here's the story: http://www.examiner.com/a-1405537~Hey__whose_ballpark_is_this_anyway_.html

To sum up the story, surrounding Red Sox fans WHO WERE IN ORIOLE PARK AT CAMDEN YARDS complained to an ORIOLE usher that the twenty 20-somethings were cheering too loud and being boisterous. Alcohol was involved, but there was no vulgarity, no punches were thrown, and these kids were just having fun and cheering for their team.

The Orioles, of course, have no comment on the issue. Why? Because they're cowards. They're, AGAIN, dodging an issue without making a formal statement.

As a 22 year old O's fan, this is absolutely enraging. Angelos and company continue to mistreat fans and harm the community. The people at ESPN 1300 AM did not cover this story. MASN did not cover this story. Why? Because they're on the pay roll. Because Angelos owns them too, and God forbid the Orioles get negative coverage.

It's bad enough that we've had to watch bad baseball for ten years. It's bad enough that every time the Yanks or Sox come into town that we're outnumbered in our own stadium. But now, we're being harassed by our own ushers in our own stadium. If I wore Orioles gear to Yankee Stadium and complained to an usher that Yankee fans were being boisterous, what would they say? They would tell me to sit down and shut up or eject me themselves.

I have personally experienced a similar situation at The Yard. While I was attending a game last summer with three of my friends, we were engaging in a little HVAC activity (high-velocity alcohol consumption). We were being loud and rooting for the O's against the Yankees. By the third or fourth beer, we were surrounded by 4 ushers with jackets that said "Alcohol Enforcement Team" on the back. They started asking us questions as to where we were before the ball game. They ILLEGALLY insisted on searching my girlfriends' purse. They checked all of our IDs. We were allowed to stay, but we were watched like hawks the entire game and told to "keep it down."

The team is improving, but Camden Yards, the most beautiful ball park in the country, will continue be empty on summer nights as long as this crap continues. Surrounding businesses who count on the ball park for customers will continue to suffer, and the Orioles will continue to lose.

I am so furious I can no longer type. I just wanted to let everyone know about another terrible injustice by the worst organization in pro sports. An organization that used to be the pinnacle of the baseball world is now a complete joke.

Please, read the article, and also check out http://www.wnst.net for continuing coverage as this story unravels. Don't trust other Baltimore media outlets to be honest about this because everyone fears King Peter. Now excuse me while I go throw up.

Given the state of the Orioles these past few years, perhaps the ushers weren't sure what that sound was! I don't suppose the Orioles refunded their money, huh? It's an open air stadium - let 'em cheer.

No, they didn't. In fact, the Orioles have no comment on the issue. I'm shocked. This is such a striking injustice...can you imagine if this happened to Red Sox fans in Boston? What would the response from the fans/media be in that case? HUGE uproar...

The Peter Angelos legacy continues...with him turning 79 on July 4th Orioles fans can only hope he sells the team soon to Cal Ripken or someone else that knows how to treat fans.

Haha I just realized that the statement "cheering too loudly" is grammatically incorrect, yet the Examiner printed it. Baltimore sports fans should stick to The Sun.

What do you guys think would happen if this were to occur at any other MLB stadium? I'm just curious because Camden Yards is all I know...

The Yankee Stadium way.....

Bunch of drunk a-holes in front, the more you tell them to shut-up, the louder they get. OK, fine. One of them gets up to head on a piss break, a couple from the "quiet" group follows.

Inside the bathroom, he gets shoved into an empty stall and gets <cough "taken care of" cough>. Another of the quiet group runs back to the seats and says, loudly, "hey, your buddy tripped in the crapper and hit his face on the sink, he's pretty facked up, you guys should come help him out."

Problem solved.

I LOVE it KD! Moreover, in Los Angeles (not in Anahiem, but Dodger land) the ushers would think twice before approaching the fans in the Left Field Pavilion. Chances are the ushers would be shoved under the bleacher seats and two fans would take their clothes and pose as ushers thus allowing the crowd to get out of control.

At Dodger Stadium the usher's motto is "If you stay off the playing field and don't commit any acts of violence - everything else goes"

What a fraud...

That's ridiculous

I remember when i was like 12 and went to an Os game with my dad...the yankees fans were being very loud (and drunk)...

I asked him if we could do anything and he just smiled and said..."wait till the 7th, they'll tire themselves out"

haha yeah man...I'm pretty sure those of us who aren't Yankees fans can attest to their terrible behavior at visiting ball parks. The thing is that these people weren't being vulgar or threatening. They were cheering on their home team, and a few Sox fans got their tampons twisted and got all hot and bothered. You would think that SOX FANS of all people would understand visitors invading the hometown ballpark and respect it. I'm not saying they should keep quiet...by all means, root for your team...but to take matters to an usher when it was unnecessary is ridiculous...excuse my language, but those sox fans were pussies...bottom line. As if that wasn't egregious enough, the fact that the hometown ushers/police officers supported their cause is unrepairable. It's especially unrepairable because the Orioles refuse to make a statement about the situation, even though they know they were wrong...AGAIN

Pff... if I was in Fenway and someone told me to leave, I don't think I'd have to do anything. As a young, 17 year old who is just crazy about the Red Sox, everyone else around would probably kick the usher's ass for me. That's how we do...

Apparently, at Camden Yards, in a field in the OUT-FRIGGIN'-DOORS, you must use your inside voice. Do they expect you to whisper-cheer when someone hits a home run for the Orioles. Retarded. Nothing else to describe it... unless you wanna say "ridiculous" or "stupid" or some other synonyms. Those stupid idiots at Camden Yards are a bunch of facking BALTIMORONS! Getting kicked out of your own team's stadium? When I first read the title, I thought it was going to be something about an O's fan being rejected from anywhere else besides Camden Yards. I would've put up a HUGE fight... and if you ask any of my friends, I'm not that much of a fighter at all.

Just to give a bit of a different perspective on this. The real foul up committed by the Orioles is giving "no comment" as an answer. Now only the 20 people who got tossed have an opportunity to voice their story. If there was good reason to eject the 20 fans, then the team has to say something about it when asked by the media. If there wasn't good reason to eject the fans, then they should publicly make amends. Give them some free tickets (how hard would it be to find 20 seats for an O's game anyway?), and come out looking good. Say something like "Some of our employees screwed up, we're sorry, here's some tickets and some beer."

That being said, we really don't know the true story. And as an usher at Gillette Stadium, if somebody walks up to me and complains about something, I'm going to take it seriously, ESPECIALLY if it's a visiting fan. Then again, nobody has ever complained to me about people "being too loud." But I've gotten my fair share of stupid sounding complaints, investigated into them, and occasionally the fans in question turn into dicks. At that point, I'm looking for a reason to eject them.

And as someone who has ejected people, and seen many more ejected, the fan(s) getting ejected always has some strange perspective on the situation that absolves them of any wrongdoing. The problem in this situation is that the organization isn't helping itself by staying silent, so we really have no idea what happened.

Romi, I don't know who this "we" you speak of is, and what exactly they "do." But if you were at Gillette Stadium and asked to leave, you'd either leave, or you'd stay...in the holding cell. And I've seen my fair share of fights at Fenway, and NEVER seen anyone take on an usher.

Oh, and if the fans were just being loud and not doing anything else, then the Red Sox fans who complained should be banned from attending any sporting event ever. Bunch of spoiled little c*nts if that's the case. And as an usher, these type of whiny people keep me from quitting cigarettes.

Rawb, I didn't mean anything by that comment I said, except for the fact that if a minor was doing something that the fans around them were thinking was okay to do, they would definitely defend me (at least that's what I think). If it was something like tossing someone out because they're too noisy, for example.

It's pretty easy, just keep an eye on things. 99% of the job is just being visible. It doesn't merit much admiration. The company I work for is really good. Some other companies have difficulty with things like teamwork (between employees, between ushers and supervisors, between employees and police). But do you expect anything less from the Patriots? wink

Well Fenway has their own company that does security. I know some people who work at both, but I only work for the Patriots (football, soccer, concerts, and this weekend the NCAA lacrosse finals are here). My favorite to work is MLS soccer because it's so easy. But the funnest to BE AT is the football games.

tonight 7/6 I was kicked out of the Sunday night baseball Yankee vs Red Sox gamee AT HOME!!!!! I had Teir Reserve Section 9 Row T tickets, some pretty terrible seats...$75...anyway. I was rooting for my team (Yankees) and I saw the guy in front of me getting frustrated at me. In the bottom of the 5th with 2 outs he left, next thing I knew cops came up and gave me a warning and let me go because I didn't do anything. They let me sit down and in the next minute I saw the man(Red Sox Fan)coming back and going back down, in that minute an usher came and told me I had to go even though the cops let me go. It was absolute BULLSHIT!!!! Fans around me were astonished at what happened, I didn't do anything. How could my own team treat me like this at home. It really makes me want to lose hope in baseball considering the steroid scandal already didn't.
