USA vs. Argentina – Friday, 10:15 AM Australia talked and talked about how they were not afraid of the United States, and it was even close for the first quarter. Then the Americans outscored the Australians 64-37 over the second and third quarters to roll to a 116-85 victory, led by Kobe Bryant’s 25 points. LeBron James added 16 points, and Carmelo Anthony had 15 for the Americans, who out-rebounded Australia 57-28 while shooting 56.6% from the field.
Argentina had to scrap for a 80-78 win over Greece in the quarterfinals, powered by 24 points from Manu Ginobili, while Carlos Delfino netted 23 for the Argentinians. This game was close from the opening tip, but Argentina’s NBA players rose to the occasion. Argentina also shot 14-for-32 from beyond the arc, making six more three-pointers than the Greeks.
The Americans are 19.5-point favorites in this contest, and the match-up to watch will be Bryant against Ginobili. These two are very familiar with each other from their Western Conference battles between the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs, and Bryant will probably focus on stopping Ginobili, since the rest of the Americans can score. However, this will be the biggest test to date for the Americans, and they will win, but they will not cover the spread.
