Mark Lamping has resigned from his post as St. Louis Cardinals team president to become CEO of the New Meadowlands Stadium Company. Lamping will oversee the $1.4 billion stadium project in New Jersey which will house the Jets and Giants when it is completed. The new facility is expected to open for the 2010 NFL season and is about 30% completed already. Lamping went through a rigorous interview process that began back in November and ended when he was offered the job last week in New York. Lamping grew up in St. Louis and is a lifetime Cardinals fan. He will be sad to leave St. Louis, but realizes the magnitude of the opportunity on the horizon for him in New York and New Jersey.

> "But this is a chance to do something different. What's happening at the Meadowlands is a once-in-a-lifetime project. I'll be able to hire my own staff and put an organization together. I'm the first employee hired, and you don't get the opportunity to build things from scratch, particularly on this prominent of a stage."

Lamping was the driving force behind the construction of the new Busch Stadium which opened in April 2006 to rave reviews. He also hired Cardinals general manager, Walt Jocketty, soon after being named president in 1994. Jocketty then hired Tony LaRussa as manager in 1995. The trio led the Cardinals to 7 postseason appearances in 12 seasons, including a World Series championship in 2006. Lamping resigns from Cards, takes job in New York (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)

Jumping off the sinking ship that is the St. Louis Cardinals is a very smart career decision.
