New Dolphins Coach Sparano

New Miami Dolphins Head Coach Tony Sparano
New Miami Dolphins Head Coach Tony Sparano

Well, it looks like another case of "Its who you know" in the coaching world. Tony Sparano ( not to be confused with Tony Soprano!), the former assistant head coach in Dallas, is now the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Hired by his former boss, Bill Parcells.

Apparently, losing Sunday against the NY Football Giants, launched his head coaching career. Who would have thought that losing a game gets you a new gig?! He was the front runner for the job in Miami since the search started.

The Dolphins have repeatedly tapped the Dallas pipeline since the arrival of Parcells. Former Cowboys assistant David Lee was hired as quarterbacks coach, and on Tuesday, Brian Gaine was hired as assistant director of player personnel after three years as the Cowboys' assistant director of pro scouting.

Sparano joined Parcells in Dallas in 2003 as tight ends coach, became offensive line coach in 2005 and called plays for Parcells in 2006. He was promoted to assistant head coach last February.

The Dolphins are coming off the worst season in team history. They lost their first 13 games and missed the playoffs for the sixth consecutive year, extending a franchise record.

Sparano said Wednesday he was not concerned with the Dolphins' losing record.

"I don't really care what happened in the past," he said. "I'm not afraid of challenges. I look forward to them."

With Garrett probably headed out as well, it's going to be an interesting year in Dallas next season.

Sparano should have refused this job. Time will prove that the only head coach worthy enough for VP Bill Parcells to coach the Miami Dolphins will be Bill Parcells.

I don't think Parcells needs that stress at this moment. Personally, I think he's gonna hold out till Miami becomes somewhat relevant again and then he'll take over.
