NCAA Tournament 2009: Big East odds Breakdown

Well another regular season in college basketball is thru and we are knee deep in March Madness NCAA Tournament style. This time of year is so exciting for everybody no matter how much you like college basketball. How many people fill out March Madness Brackets and put a few dollars in a company pool in hopes to winning much more.

As a handicapper it is our job to try and find ways to make money picking winners against the spread or picking future wagers that will be profitable. Today Craig Trapp from CTSportsPicks.com  is going to look at the Big East Teams as most believe the Champion will come from one of these teams.

Louisville Cardinals: The overall #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament comes from the big east the Cardinals were the winners of both the regular season and big east conference championship. Future odds to win the NCAA Championship have Louisville at 5-1 which is 2nd only to North Carolina. Craig has the Cards as the #3 ranked team in his most recent power ranking that he just updated today. Rating the brackets Craig has the Midwest bracket as the toughest of all of the four regions.

Pittsburgh Panthers: #1 seed from the East bracket! Currently the Panthers are 6-1 on the futures board to win the NCAA championship. An early exit in the Big East Championship most likely cost Pittsburgh the overall #1 seed. But sometimes losing early in a conference tournament can help a team get motivated and the extra rest might be good for this team. Craig has the East as the easiest NCAA bracket. PITT is the most talented team from the BIG EAST conference and can't imagine that this team does not make the Final Four.

Connecticut Huskies: #1 seed for the West NCAA bracket and was the last of the top one seeds. UCONN is 7-1 on the futures boards to win the NCAA Championship. A month ago this team was #1 on Craig's power rankings but an injury to lead guard Dyson has really cost them with 3 losses since then. The Huskies are a very nice team but would be real surprised if this team can make it to the final four. Craig has the West Bracket as the 2nd most difficult bracket with both Memphis, Missouri, and Washington all tough teams for UCONN.

Syracuse Orangemen: Best #3 seed without a doubt. The Orange are one of the dark horses in this years field with an improbable 6 OT win over #1 seed UCONN just 3 days ago. Best trio of scoring guards in all of the tournament make this team a force to be reckoned with. Sports Future Odds have Syracuse at 15-1 to pull off the upsets and win the Championship this year. Craig has the Orange in the 2nd easiest bracket with really only one top team UNC that Syracuse has to contend with.

Villanova Wildcats: Maybe the one team that got a higher seed than they deserve from the big east. A #3 seed was a little high but the Big East strength surely helped them. Future odds boards have the Wildcats at a lofty 25-1 to win the NCAA Championship. Last year this was a cinderella story with 2 upset wins and a sweet 16 appearance. Very easy bracket really only one power team Pitt in there bracket makes Villanova a definite final four contender.

West Virginia Mountaineers: Coach Huggins has WVU playing there best basketball of the season at the right time. A #6 seed that could definitely upset several of the top seeds from the Midwest Bracket. Toughest bracket though makes it unlikely they can win it all. The future odds support Craig's opinion finding this team at odds of 50-1 to win the NCAA Championship.

Marquette Golden Eagles: An unfortunate injury has most likely derailed the chances of this team making a big run in the tournament. A #6 seed from the West that have some tough match ups for a team with little or no depth. At long shot odds of 50-1 to win the NCAA Championship the Eagles are really up against it. Missouri and Memphis both are better versions of themselves make it really hard for Craig to see this team doing in any real damage.

Of all the Big East teams Pittsburgh might be the one that is worth a wager to win the NCAA Championship. Pitt just a week ago was the team to beat and a loss against your rival in the conference championship helped get all of us a little odds value and at 6-1 Craig will definitely take it.
