So the entire country well Bulls fans, Magic fans and Boston haters all over is in an uproar over the flagrant foul that was not charged on Rajon Rondo. Of course, when a guy damn near loses a tooth it is cause for concern but its not like he took a real shot at the guy. On second thought, go find someone a foot taller or shorter than you…give them an object or you hold the object yourself and jump in the air…chances are the shorter person has no chance at reaching the object and depending on athleticism will at best reach your face...almost EXACTLY what happened there. While Rondo should’ve knew that there was no way in hell he was contesting that shot, in the clutch in the playoffs you take risks. Miller was fouled no denying that.

Miller is 1 ft taller than Rondo, simple physics can tell you Rondo couldn't get the ball if he tried (AP Photo,Winslow Townson

But Miller a seasoned playoff veteran, 85% FT shooter should’ve nailed those two free throws, he didn’t just miss he clunked it. Then he when he tried to miss he blew it again and then suddenly it goes back to oooh it should’ve been a flagrant anyway, no it should’ve been a tied game.

On a completely unrelated note, Dwight Howard simply attempted to Chris Brown Samuel Dalembert. Howard is one of my favorite players right now but at the end of the day the suspension is deserved and SPOILER ALERT it will ultimately cost them the series. So then again we go back to Rondo, and people wonder if Howard got suspended why not Rondo, oh is it because the Celtics are the most storied franchise in the NBA or is it because Rondo believed he could fly and realized he couldn’t at the expense of Brad Miller’s mouth.

C'mon Superman, you can't just go around Chris Browning people
C'mon Superman, you can't just go around Chris Browning people

But of course, Boston if not Titletown is Hatetown. I mean everyone hates Boston, whether its New Yorkers who are way to full of themselves, Sports cities who’s so hungry for a ship they become pirates, and of course the people who simply hate Boston because it is about as popular as Susan Boyle searches.

The Bulls SHOULD have won game 5, all Miller choke jobs aside whether it was Ben Gordon’s flop that turned into 3 FTs, the fact that they blew an 11 point lead quicker than (insert punchline here later), the Celtics still lack KG so they should be killing the interior like purple paint with brown trim.

So seriously Bulls fans and everyone else get a grip, this has been a great series, don’t belittle it with your whining and complaining and making a marriage out of the entire thing. There’s still 2 more games and while the Celtics fan in me wants this over in 6, the basketball fan in me wants another nailbiter en route to a critical game 7. Crying isn’t going to get you game 5 back…

Crying isnt going to get Game 5 Back...

Brad Miller should've dunked that ball or at least attempt to. Perkins was slow on the help and it would've likely been a blocking foul had Miller gone strong to the hole. Instead, a 7 foot tall guy DRIVES TO THE BASKET WITH THE THUNDEROUS.....finger roll?

What's he doing a finger roll for?

Then again, Vinny Del Negro's ineptness meant Tyrus Thomas was not on the court when he could've been in the same situation and slammed that ball home.

ironically Miller was on the floor because of his great free throw shooting ability...and I agree, though he may have been worried about time running out, most of the time refs look the other way when it comes to a good dunk

Nice post Trizz. Of course being from Chicago, quite naturally there is a counter-response to this sentiment. And indeed I wrote one. We can both agree that this has been a terrific first round series and tonight's game is going to be awesome.

And didn't Ray Allen get a pair of ticky-tack fouls in the 4th, knocking him out of the game? To me, the refs sucked all the way around, but they typically suck in the NBA anyway.

I agree. The officiating is atrocious. It appears at times that there are 3 teams on the court.

I think the fact that Bulls fans and C's fans can agree that the officiating is inconsistent and blind speaks volumes. I only watch playoff bball anyway, but it seems like the reffing in the NBA is the worst in the 4 "big leagues." Just an opinion though.

To be fair, there's been a trend towards officiating excellence (or lack thereof) for about the last decade...

I have a hard time remember the last postseason in a decade, in any sport that didn't involve someone complaining about the officials...

doesn't mean its not true, just an observation...

Being able to see replays online ad nauseum probably makes it seem like the refs are worse, when they're probably the same.

It bears mentioning, though, that basketball is probably the toughest sport to officiate. Not the most physically demanding (that'd be hockey), but the most difficult in terms of the frequency of the nuanced, split-second judgment calls you have to make per game.

Very true D21. It also seems like most calls are opinions, and can be impossible to see in real-time. That's why I'm pissed at the refs in the Bulls/Celtics series, their opinions of foul/non-foul change from call to call.

Sorry to go off the basketball course, but the problem with this focus on officiating has been, IMO, damaging to the game.

Consider football, where referees are now more apt to not blow plays dead because it is then not challengable, whereas if they allow play to continue, they shift blame and...essentially officiating...onto a split second decision by the coach

nevermind the fact that if a ref screws up 4 times, a coach is essentially...screwed

that doesn't seem right...

I hate the crap hockey officials allow to happen in playoff overtime games. The logic being that they're afraid to be the ones to affect the outcome of a game, but by not calling obvious penalties, they are affecting the outcome of a game.

I'm not a fan of the electronic strike zones MLB stadiums now have to judge umpires. A good ump will call a consistent strike zone, and it will vary from ump to ump. That's what a good umpire is, not what a strict electronic strike zone decides.

in almost any refereeing situation, consistency is key...I mean, as long as players know/can figure out what is going to be consistently called one way or another, its fine...

some people don't like things being called too lose (offensive players) or tight (defense), but both teams have to deal with that and as long as its consistent you rarely get issues

of course, in your umpire example, I can remember numerous times Greg Maddux would get calls because...well, he's Greg Maddux...
