The Yankees already had a better pitching rotation than the Mets entering the offseason, so their sense of urgency to get a high-quality pitcher wasn't as high as the Mets. Here, the Mets let Tom Glavine walk, there are still question marks surrounding the long-term health of Pedro Martinez, how Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez will hold up and if John Maine and Oliver Perez can deliver solid 2008 seasons. The Mets have the money, it's a matter of how well they spend it, especially on Santana here. Actually, Santana is possibly looking for a deal as long as 7 years, so we'll see what the final terms will be.
