So, I went wandering around one day and well into the night. I was on a mission, a mission to find out what the fans of Philadelphia were thinking about the Eagles upcoming draft choices and their overall opinions. Needless to say, I'm a tad disappointed and not entirely surprised at the power the media has over my fellow fans. Here's a few random quotes I got from some people.(Some of these are censored, I used nicer words....):

"McNabb is just terrible, him and Reid both need to go. McNabb is nothing but an over-hyped less athletic Michael Vick. He can't hit open receivers, he can't run and he's always injured."

"Screw McNabb He's a bum. He was never good."

"McNabb should be traded off for whatever we can get and start Kolb right away. He's much better than mcNabb and will grow throughout the year."

Sad isn't it? THe three quotes represent the most common eagle fans I encountered, the somewhat intelligent but-still-doesn't-know-much fan. the "OMG MCNABB SUX" fan, and the "I'm entirely unaware of things around me" fan. I don't see why people hate on McNabb? Sure, if you read into my past posts I've been frustrated with McNabb. Mere frustration is much more understandable and expected over the typical stupidity generated by most Eagle fans. These same fans, who insisted we pick Ricky Williams over McNabb. The same Eagles fans who cheered Mike Mamula. It sickens me to even mention the type of Idiocy represented when Irvin went down and did not get back up. Forget throwing things at Santa, that's nothing to the inexcusable cheering of an injured player on the field, rival or not. Did the opposing team's fans Cheer when Kevin Everett went down? No. Come on Philly, show some class and intelligence. I've defend you long enough but after seeing everything I have I'm tired of being corralled into the same unintelligent muck we call Eagles Fandom.

The draft choosing was even more enjoyable, I lost the quotes I had written down, but from general memory most involved "trade McNabb and draft Brohm." Why? Not one single Philadelphia Eagles fan has ever, EVER given me a valid reason as to why McNabb should be traded. This is the same QB that won six straight NFC East titles, taken us to four NFC Championships, and to one Super Bowl. Brian Brohm is overrated anyway. Word of advice, don't praise McNabb, you life will be threatened, mine was. Haha!

Verdict: McNabb ends his career in Philly, Kolb is not the answer and the Eagles trade up and draft DE Long.

First of all, nice article. Well done.

Face it, Donovan McNabb has been used and abused every since his draft day by Philadelphia.

I look forward to seeing him take snaps as the starter for the Bears next season!

They're entirely different scenarios...

The eagles (under reid) have traded up twice (i think) once to acquire Shawn Andrews (Worked!) the other time to get Jerome McDougal (didn't work!)...so its still a crap shoot

no...and especially 10 years from now, few will argue....

I could argue with Cunningham, who even at this state, never had the offensive talent around him McNabb did (seriously...Mark Seay anyone?)

But other than that, unless you go real old school (before Jaworski) there really isn't anyone...

More importantly, ignoring your cheering of irvin thing, which is old hat, the deal with McNabb is intricate, but not...

its intricate because he's a soon to be 32 year old athlete/QB. Lets face it, the guy is similar to Steve McNair, when injuries, tough playing and skills wear down...he's not 28 year old Superbowl McNabb and that's a fact.

If you believe the eagles need to rebuild, then trading McNabb is essential, because neither he nor the eagles will ever do anything more together. That is to say, McNabb's window will be closed by the time the eagles window will be opened...of course you should probably trade westbrook as well, as the same could be said in 2 years when BWest is 30-something...

Now, if you think the eagles are real close, which is where i stand, you understand that McNabb is gonna have to be the guy in order to get anywhere (Ideally Superbowl). Kolb, hopefully, can pull a tony romo and be the guy 3 years from now, when, coincidently, McNabb's contract will end. The eagles definitely need some secondary help, between injuries and Dawkins' aging (love the guy, but its a fact). Moreover, they need a home run hitting receiver...(I was wrong about this before, they need a facking playmaker!).

And the reality of the whole situation is McNabb will probably be in Philly for at least 2 years (08-09), save a Andy Reid Firing (which I also doubt). McNabb is Reid's guy, Reid is Lurie's guy and what Lurie says goes.

Let's not forget that McNabb is coming off major surgery. Next year will be a better indication of what he can do for the team. He has a lot of pressure and has brought the team so close. Other than the Patriots success, the Eagles have one of the best results in the last 10 years. Tons of teams would love to have that preformance.

Would you rather be Baltimore with one SBowl win and bad seasons before and after? Every year is exciting being an eagles fan. We know the team can put it together. Look at the game against the Pats.

Assess McNabb based on his season next year.

But, it's been the same story for the past few season in Philly: McNabb goes down with multiple injuries, Philly loses in playoffs (or miss them altogether). McNabb MUST be realated to Steve McNair:) He's getting old, and has missed 16 games in the past 4 years, and has survived just 3 16-game seasons, and is in his 9th year in the League. Face it, McNabb is losing it, you can blame it one his injuries all you want, he's declining regardless. But, on the other hand, his numbers have gone up a little this year, so I will keep him for at least one more year, but if I'm Andy Reid, it's Super Bowl or Bust.

I'm assessing McNabb on his career. I know an ACL tear is a two-year injury, which is why I've backed off of my criticism for him.

And Jut, we don't have to rebuild, we have a good you ng core coming up (Cole, Patterson, Bunkley, Andrews to name a few) We need to dump off terrible players (Tra Thomas, John Runyan) and build around B-West and McNabb. McNabb has such talent that isn't being utilized because his offensive line is not pass blocking well at all. It doesn't help that the only receiver doing anything is Curtis.

I'm no fan of Reggie Brown, Hank Baskett is better in my opinion.

and to call Runyan and Thomas terrible is ludicrous...old yes...but did you see what happened when Justice went in for Thomas...

Cole is undersized and is complementary at DE...they could use a stud there as well

anyways, my point was, if you believe the eagles need to rebuild, then trading mcnabb makes sense, if you don't think they do, then you shouldn't trade him...get it?

I know. I understood what you meant. But Thomas and Runyan are terrible. Pss protecting wise. They're too slow. Look at the amount of sacks we've given up this year. It's terrible. McNabb will only look as bad as his O-Line is.

As for Justice, that was Reid's stupidity. Why would you leave a rookie LT with no starting experience up against a top tier Pass rusher? Stupid.

Cole may be undersized, but so is Freeney, and he kicks ass. Kearse is and he USED to kick ass until he wanted 1% body fat. Size has nothing to do with it. Cole can, and probably will be a top tier Pass Rusher. He needs a viable DE on the other side, and personally I like Victor Abiamiri.

Cut Reid, keep mcNabb and win a damn Super Bowl.

What about 2000-02 when they ran the ball and dinked and dunked...the west coast offense and a solid defense is what protected McNabb...

how about drafting Westbrook (who did that?!) or Sheppard or Brown or Cole or Andrews or Jackson or Herremans or Smith or Bunkley or Patterson or Gocong, Gaither or Bradley (the new anointed one in Philly)...

Reid is only successful because of McNabb is questionable at best...

Reid is 12-8 w/o McNabb...

TehLoki, good topic you wrote about here. I don't see the Eagles enough to really make a detailed assessment about Donovan McNabb, but I will say this. After going to the Super Bowl three years ago, the expectations for him were set, fair or not... sometimes Philly sports fans are nuts. I remember talking to my friend from there the other night and he was telling me how much Flyers fans are already complaining about the so-called saviour between the pipes. People are to no surprise thinking Martin Biron should be traded away after losing both games of a home-and-home series against Buffalo just before Christmas... I think Eagles fans should just take a step back and reevaluate McNabb and the rest of team next season. It's not like they'll be terrible. Just a few bad plays this season removed, they're playoff bound. Not at all too far from their grasp in 2008.

You all make great points. As an Eagles fan from out of the city I laugh at all the media talk and stupid Eagle fans in the city. My buddy lives in the city and I asked him his opinion and while he doesn't believe Kolb is the answer he thinks McNabb needs to go. I should also say I am a huge McNabb fan. I agree with different points from these posts and comments.

1. McNabb is a franchise qb and the Eagles will be searching for years for another one if they trade him. Yes he has been hurt but when he is healthy he is at LEAST top 10 if not top 5 in the league. 2. The only way you dump Reid is if you trade McNabb. Reid has had a good run, but I think he is too stubborn to let him rebuild the team. If rebuilding is where the Eagles go than a new coach should come in. 3. They absolutely NEED at least 1 great reciever. In the early 2000s McNabb could do so much with his legs that he didn't need great recievers. He can't do it anymore and needs a GREAT WR. 4. Defense was also better in past years. Secondary needs depth, they keep letting nickel backs leave and start elsewhere (harris, hood).

Other than that I also think they are close to winning. Reid has to get past his ego and sign a bigtime reciever though.

Good points

Harris is a chickenshit CB...

Anyways, I can take both sides. I agree McNabb should stay, but I believe they can run an effecient offense with a decent QB (like Garcia, which I think Kolb could do)...Will he be McNabb? No...will he be Garcia...I could see that...

But they'll win games with dink/dunk, 100 yard rushers and good Defense....

What I don't get about Reid is that he refuses to get a home run hitting receiver and still throws the ball constantly

I don't think they can win without at least a game breaking wr. I also don't think Westbrook can handle the load and they don't have another rb capable of handling it. I know Westbrook stayed relatively healthy this year but then again he was on the injury report just about every week and almost missed multiple games. he is incredible but not durable. So if you think Kolb can be Garcia than I think they need another HB to do most the running. Westbrook still needs 15-20 touches a game though. But to keep him healthy let someone else run.

The secondary does have some issues, but its more health than poor talent...we do need a 3rd corner and a safety, I agree

the defense needs some good fortune...those years they were dominant they didn't have injuries...that's a big key...

that's true Loki. the defense is not as dominate but it isn't the secondary as much as it is pressure on the QB. And I don't think the secondary is that weak, just thin and fragile. Dawkins has lost a step and the other safety spot is soft but the corners (when healthy) are very good. The linebackers don't blitz well, no lineman other than Cole are getting any pressure.

I personally am not a fan of Gocong at all. I've watched hima few times (and from the stands from behind got a good view of how he plays) While he does play smart, he's not alwyas around the ball and does get fooled easily. His biggest issue is shedding blocks.

And we do have a decent 3rd CB, Hanson is a ballhawk, he's always around the ball and makes plays. Sheldon Brown is our bets CB and Lito is too injury prone, but good.

No pressure? There's all sorts of pressure from the D-Line, Cole has 12 sacks. Patterson and Bunkley are pushing the middle easily, as evidenced by our improved run defense.

I'm a Giants fan, but I cannot BELIEVE the flak that Donovan Mcnabb catches!!! It's unreal. If any QB playing for the New York Giants won 6 NFC East titles and went to 4 NFC Championships and a Super Bowl, he'd be immune from any talks of a trade and there would probably a riot if he was. I want someone to name ONE great receiver Donovan Mcnabb has had besides T.O and Brian Westbrook. I defy you to do it. Pinkston? Thrash? Freddie {LMAO} Mitchell??? Not to mention that the offensive line this year has been downright deplorable? How the heck do you allow a QB to get sacked more than 11 times??? Mcnabb has been treated like dogcrap the moment he's dawned an Eagles cap on Draft Day. I personally hope Mcnabb leaves the Eagles and heads for greener pastures in a place he'd be more appreciated. Perhaps the Bears or Ravens Furthermore, As a Giants fan, We'll take Mcnabb. You can have Eli.

If often wondered what would have happened had the eagles gotten couch instead of McNabb...

Would McNabb and Akili Smith Taken the same path while Couch became Peyton Manning 2.0 (1 year later)...or would the eagles still be the head scratchers they were during the Rhodes Era...

You can point to couch now and see how bad he was, but its truly hard to say...i mean A.J. Feeley was terrible for the phins but went 5-1 w/ the eagles prior to going to Miami...
