Now that the playoffs are here, I figured it was time to go over what I picked before the season and tell you why I was wrong or why I was right.

You might be surprised.

Does the Hoch have what it takes?
Does the Hoch have what it takes?

AFC East

My Prediction:

New England Patriots : 11-5

New York Jets : 9-7

Buffalo Bills : 6-10

Miami Dolphins : 5-11

Actual:

New England Patriots : 16-0

Buffalo Bills : 7-9

New York Jets : 4-12

Miami Dolphins : 1-15

EESSH. That was a bad pick huh? Well, I had the Pats and Fins in the right place, but I had to think that the Jets and Bills would do better this season.

The Jets were in the run last season and the Bills had seemed to get better. This season, though, was not what I expected.

The Dolphins on the other hand were going to be bad…but THIS bad? Where is the trash-talk now Joey Porter?

AFC North

My Prediction:

Baltimore Ravens : 11-5

Cincinnati Bengals : 10-6

Pittsburgh Steelers : 7-9

Cleveland Browns : 4-12

Actual:

Pittsburgh Steelers : 10-6

Cleveland Browns : 10-6

Cincinnati Bengals : 7-9

Baltimore Ravens : 5-11

This was my worst Division. Who would have known that the Ravens would implode, the Browns would step up and that the Steelers would come back?

Not Dukeboy999 in his article: Why Matt's AFC North Prediction Was Wrong. (Had to get the dig in there)

AFC South

My Prediction:

Indianapolis Colts : 11-5

Jacksonville Jaguars : 10-6

Tennessee Titans : 8-8

Houston Texans : 7-6

Actual:

Indianapolis Colts : 13-3

Jacksonville Jaguars : 11-5

Tennessee Titans : 10-6

Houston Texans : 8-8

I will just delight in the amazing proximity that I had to the actual records. So close. And you know I will take the right division standings any day.

AFC West

My Prediction:

San Diego Chargers : 14-2

Denver Broncos : 10-6

Kansas City Chiefs : 7-9

Oakland Raiders : 5-11

Actual:

San Diego Chargers : 11-5

Denver Broncos : 7-9

Oakland Raiders : 4-12

Kansas City Chiefs : 4-12

Wow…I almost had the rankings right at least. The Chargers started slow and finally made something of it. The Broncos dealt with injuries all season and went dopwn hill fast. The Raiders actually won some games (not 5!) and beat the Chiefs and Broncos once.

Arguably one of the worst divisions this year after projecting as a solid division.

NFC East

My Prediction:

Dallas Cowboys : 10-6

New York Giants : 9-7

Philadelphia Eagles : 9-7

Washington Redskins : 6-10

Actual:

Dallas Cowboys : 13-3

New York Giants : 10-6

Washington Redskins : 9-7

Philadelphia Eagles : 8-8

I picked three teams to come out of the NFC East for the playoffs. I was right; just swap the Eagles and Redskins.

I think that I was pretty close on this one as well.

NFC North

My Prediction:

Chicago Bears : 13-3

Green Bay Packers : 8-8

Detroit Lions : 7-9

Minnesota Vikings 6-10 [1]

Actual:

Green Bay Packers : 13-3

Minnesota Vikings 8-8 [2]

Chicago Bears : 7-9

Detroit Lions : 7-9

Hey I got the Lions right…

Did anyone see this Division panning out like this? I mean, other then a Packers fan did anyone see them winning 13? Kudos to the team in the small town in Wisconsin.

NFC South

My Prediction:

New Orleans Saints : 10-6

Carolina Panthers : 8-8

Atlanta Falcons : 6-10

Tampa Bay Buccaneers : 4-12

  Actual:

Tampa Bay Buccaneers : 9-7

Carolina Panthers : 7-9

New Orleans Saints : 7-9

Atlanta Falcons : 4-12

This was a disappointing Division as well. The Bucs outdid themselves with a toughness that had been lacking. The Falcons fell further then expected and the Saints suffered a lot of injuries.

Was it the worst division this year?

NFC West

My Prediction:

Seattle Seahawks : 11-5

St. Louis Rams : 8-8

Arizona Cardinals : 7-9

San Francisco 49ers : 6-10

Actual:

Seattle Seahawks : 10-6

Arizona Cardinals : 8-8

San Francisco 49ers : 5-11

St. Louis Rams : 3-13

I was pretty close again. I didn’t expect the Rams to fall that far and it looks like the Cardinals may finally be putting a team together that could challenge the 4-time champion Seahawks.

This is just a re-hash. I will be putting together my Playoff Preview shortly.

It's great to see someone's offseason's picks compared to the season's actual outcomes. Good article, Afraidofedhochuli.
*BTW, the only thing I remember in my offseason pick was that the Pats and the Colts would finish off with the same record (13-3). At least I was right about the Colts. ;)

I had the proper ranking predicted for the NFC North. However, I thought the Packers would finish at 10-6, maybe 11-5. I never thought that Detroit would get 7 wins.

Didn't see the Jets implosion. But I did expect the Ravens downfall.

Didn't predict 16-0 for the Pats.

Didn't see the Bucs coming.

I kept saying the Steelers would bounce back because it was almost the same team that won the superbowl.
