MLB Power Rankings

8/4/2008 Rankings   By Paul Bessire, WhatIfSports.com   August 4th, 2008

WhatIfSports.com utilizes its award-winning baseball simulation engine to present the most comprehensive and unbiased ranking possible of all 30 teams in baseball each Monday during the regular season. To come up with the rankings, using only their statistical performance to date this season, each team is simulated against every other team 100 times – 50 at home and 50 at the opposing ballpark so that all five pitchers in the current rotation start ten times at each location.

( Note: This means that if a pitcher who was in the rotation was recently put on the DL, he will not be included in the simulations. This is true of position players as well, but and injury to one position player will usually have a lesser impact on the week-to-week results.)

Teams Ranked by Winning Percentage (everyone plays everyone 100 times)

Well...

A) He/They explained their forumla

B) The Angels have generally been lucky (statistically speaking)...

C) Maybe its because the Angels just aren't as good as you think? I mean they get to play the As, Rangers and Mariners 18 times a piece

You see Beast, this is called "a simulation", sometimes it can be right, sometimes it can be wrong. It's been over 100 games and if I'm correct they did this several days ago on FOX and posted it on here so stop flipping. ;-)

y'know, when people subjectively "power rank" teams, I can understand beefs, being upset or not getting it, but when I guy (Davis does this too, consider his 100 best QBs) does a ranking and explains his exact formula, its hard to bitch...WIS never claims its correct per se, just that if each of these teams, at this particular moment all played each other (over and over) this is how it would shake out...

I don't get how that's hard to understand...

If you wanna gripe, bitch about the method...
