Hitting

Chipper Jones is still leading the NL in hitting with a .410 average with a former Brave Rafael Furcal second with a .371 average. With 43 hits already, this may be the first time Furcal gets 200 hits in a season. His 43 hits leads the Majors. He has had 194 and 196 in the past. Furcal is 4th in the Majors in extra base hits with 17, while his teammate Andruw Jones has 5. Furcal also leads the Los Angeles Dodgers in slugging percentage (.586). Furcal is tied for major league lead in doubles with 12.

Chase Utley leads in home runs with 11 with five other National Leaguers tied with 8 each. Joe Crede and Carlos Quentin of the Chicago White Sox are next with 7. Utley also leads the Majors in total bases with 86 (with Derrek Lee next with 76), and slugging percentage with a .748 percentage (Curtis Granderson has a .793 percentage, but only has 29 at bats. Chipper Jones is second with a .690 slugging percentage).

Josh Hamilton leads in RBI's with 32 with Emil Brown, Xavier Nady and Pat Burrell next with 26.

Albert Pujols leads in walks (30), and in on-base percentage with a .523 mark. Furcal second with a .459 percentage.

Ryan Howard leads in strikeouts with 39. Mark Reynolds is right behind with 38.

Michael Bourn leads in stolen bases with 13. Carlos Gomez and Willy Taveras are in second with 11.

Pitching

Brandon Webb leads in wins with 6, with four pitchers tied with 5 each.

Barry Zito leads in losses with 6, with Matt Chico and Jason Jennings trying to catch up with 5 each.

Cliff Lee is leading in ERA among pitchers with at least 30 innings with a 0.96 mark. Zack Greinke is next with a 1.47 ERA.

Roy Halladay leads in complete games with 4 with 16 pitchers tied with one each.

Cliff Lee, Vicente Padilla, James Shields, Andy Sonnanstine, and Ben Sheets are the only pitchers who have pitched shutouts this season.

Francisco Rodriguez leads in saves with 11 with George Sherrill next with 10.

Joe Blanton leads in hits allowed (58), with Kevin Millwood next in line with 53.

C.C. Sabathia leads in earned runs allowed with 28 in 32 innings while second place Gil Meche has allowed 27 earned runs in 33 innings.

Brett Myers leads in home runs allowed (10), with Jason Jennings next with 8 home runs allowed.

Tom Gorzelanny leads in walks with 27 in 27 innings. Fausto Carmona is second with 26 walks in 34 innings.

Aaron Harang and Felix Hernandez lead in strikeouts with 41 each. Tim Lincecum, Jonathan Sanchez, and Chad Billingsley are second with 40 each.

Ben Sheets and Cliff Lee have allowed the lowest batting average by an opponent with .150 and .151 averages respectively.

Max Scherzer, recently called up by the Arizona Diamondbacks, has struck out an average of 14.54 batters per nine innings, but doesn't qualify. Therefore, it is Chad Billingsley who leads all pitchers with batters facing them at least 100 times with 13.01 strikeouts per nine innings. John Smoltz is next with 12 strikeouts per nine innings.

Nice recap, Niteowl. I think Scherzer being called up by the Diamondbacks is a good move. I'm not saying he's going to do great, but so far, he has proved that he has the potential of being Big League material.

Sorry...would have replied sooner but have worked 13 hours today with 8 more coming up for 21 hours out of 24 hours worked...Scherzer seems like the real thing but Cueto did too so will withhold judgement but he is striking hitters in bunches. After Cueto I am more careful to not build up anyone.
