Kurt Warner is a Hall of Famer

Can you Imagine if Kurt Warner started his career before the age of 27? Only Roger Staubach is among the greats who has started his career at such a late stage of his career. Only 4 quarterbacks have more MVP awards than Warner (Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Otto Graham, Johnny Unitas). He has won 1 Superbowl and appeared in 2 others (one outcome pending). He has the 3rd highest quarterback rating of all time. Dan Fouts and Warren Moon were inducted into the Hall solely on numbers alone. There were NO Superbowl rings or MVP awards by either of them

It's a compelling argument, but I think that he is a borderline case. He lost his job in St. Louis - although this could be more attributed to Martz's misjudgment. And he had some trouble in NY and Arizona getting and/or keeping the starting job.

If he wins Super Bowl 43 (which I hope against hope he doesn't), that would be a boost to him, as his overall numbers are kinda low. 28591 yds = 38th all time, 182 TDs = 40th all time. Not too shabby, but it's the Hall of Fame.

You're right about him not being high up on the all time stats list. There are some players who have definitely compiled some stats though who will never even get close to a Hall induction (Testaverde and Bledsoe). Aikman, Starr, and Staubach are just a couple players with less career touchdowns than Kurt. I think the idea of Kurt being a winner is what makes me think he should make it. I'm big on the fact that this is his third Super bowl appearance and if it wasn't for the Cardinals stinking up late November/early December, he might have his 3rd MVP title.

I'm surprised to see that he has more TDs than Aikman. I can only imagine this must be because Smith had so many rushing TDs.

As for Starr and Staubach, they both played in an era where the pass wasn't as prominent as it is today. It's funny (and appropriate) how Staubach's highest season TD totals are in his last two seasons (78 and 79), just at the time the NFL changed the rules to favor receivers.

I'm also glad that Staubach is in the Hall. If he was up for it today, he'd probably have detractors due to losing two Super Bowls. By the same token, he did win two as well.

Aikman really was over-rated.

Aikman is most certainly not overrated. He played in one of the most balanced, efficient offenses in the NFL--something the current Cowboys would be wise to note.

Hard to overrate a 3-time Superbowl champ... Please note, he won one Super Bowl with barry Switzer a.k.a. an essentially coach-less team

As always, my comments are simply my opinion

61.5% comp. 165 TDs. 141 ints. 32942 yards in 11 years. Record: 94-71. Sounds a little over-rated to me. Yes he was on some teams that won some titles. I just don't remember him ever taking the team on his shoulders and leading them to victory. He is the game-manager. Hand it to Emmitt or throw it to Michael or Jay. Great teams, really good QB. Not great QB.

The only reason he shows up on this page is because he was once sacked 11 times in one game.

Cheez, you are correct that his numbers are not particularly overwhelming. You call him the game manager, but I would say he is the ultimate game manager. With other game managers, you constantly worry that they won't get you beat. Aikman was the epitomy of consistent excellence. As for stats, I willingly concede that Favre was the better QB, but Favre would get you beat from time to time. Aikman never would. I would say it is unfair to punish him for having a wealth of talent at other positions. Just because he never had to carry his team (and he actually did from time to time) doesn't mean he couldn't.
And if you disagree, I'll meet you in the playground after school so we can "work" it out. Be there!

I have a signed Kurt Warner card (from his days in St. Louis). The price will sky-rocket if he ends up in Canton. That would be nice. This is one of the toughest Hall calls out there though. Either way, people will be upset with the outcome.

Nice, a Lynn Swann RC! I have a Jerome Bettis rookie, but yeah same here, I don't too many signed ones either. The Warner and Kevin Kolb signed cards are probably the better ones I have.

Warner's a unique case. It's one thing to be a backup, then emerge as a star (Tom Brady), it's another thing to do it multiple times throughout a career. I think that seriously dents his case for Canton.

Look at it this way. He started his career at 27. Led The Greatest show on Earth, got to 2 Super Bowls, has been a top rated passer since he came into this league.

The only reason he lost his starting Jobs in NY and Arizona(at first in AZ) was because the teams drafted Franchise QBs. We all see that Eli has become a prolific passer, so that was a lost job eventually. In AZ he beat out Matt Leinart fair and square, proving he had something left(that and Matt's injuries and lack of being a good QB).

I say he gets in easily, The man is a proven winner, makes everyone around him better. Just look at what he's done to this team. SUre they've always had Fitz and Boldin, but they haveb a QB who can find them with ease, and because of that, that has recently opened things up the Edge to look like he's 25 again.

FIrst ballot.

I don't know about first ballot. The HOF has a lot of head scratchers as to why this guy or that isn't in. I think this Super Bowl will be a good barometer for him.

I can't help but remember the pass Manning had just before Tyree caught the ball with his head. On the pass in question, Manning threw it right to Asante Samuel, but it went right through his hands. If Samuel catches that, the game's over and this poppycock (yes, poppycock, apparently I'm 70) about Manning being clutch would never have started.

I asked the question because one of the statements in the article is, "Only 4 quarterbacks have more MVP awards than Warner (Joe Montana, Peyton Manning, Otto Graham, Johnny Unitas)." The author needs to clarify his facts before making such sweeping statements

Favre has three.

Manning has three.

1. How did a 1 paragraph article get 9 votes?

2. We need to get AGM out of sports blog hell. Deadspin BROKE a story on the Morning edition of Sportscenter and ESPNews yesterday. DEADSPIN, a freaking blog! (The most respected nonetheless)

3. I should get back into the mix around here

1. I stopped being exclusive and selective with my votes when there was only 0.8 new articles per day on this site. Although this is short, it's to the point, not badly written, and a conversation starter. This is comment #31, or a week's worth of comments 1 month ago.

I often find that the comments are the more interesting part of the article. Many times points are raised on my own articles that I had never thought of. I think of AGM more as an exchange of ideas and a place for like-minded sports fans to congregate.

Even though I have never met most of you, I would consider many of the users of this site a friend.
