Today John Lynch announced his retirement from the NFL after 15 seasons, 11 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 4 with the Denver Broncos, and a pre-season stint this year with the New England Patriots. Lynch's legacy will be mostly remembered as a hard hitting safety who was very dependable thru the years, evidenced by his 9 Pro-Bowl appearences. When Lynch's time comes he will definatley earn some well deserved consideration for the Hall of Fame.

Drafted in the third round by the Buccaneers in 1993, Lynch was a key cog in the Buccaneers' defense all the way through the rest of the decade and won a Super Bowl with the team in 2002. He remained part of the Buccaneers until 2004 when he was cut by the Buccaneers for cap reasons and signed a free agent contract with the Denver Broncos. He was a key contributer with the Broncos adding 267 tackles in 4 years bringing his career total to 1277. He also had an impressive 26 interceptions in his career. Lynch was released by the Broncos before the 2008 season and signed with the New England Patriost where spent the pre-season. He was cut after the final pre-season game in which he played every defensive snap upon his request.

Now that Lynch has moved on he will be remembered as a fierce and often dangerous hitter who was a master at timing a collision almost instantaneously with the balls arrival to a receiver. He will likely one day reside in Canton along many other all time great players. Lynch plans on working for FOX in their football broadcasts and will be part of the Jaguars-Vikings telecast this week.
