It's here - the worse innovation of 2008

Man, this thing is U-G-L-Y.  I just can't imagine any self-respecting football player, active or retired (outside of Steve Tasker), would consider wearing this god-forsaken montrosity. Americans want their football players to be tough and be able to take some punishment; not look like a bobblehead.  Really, all of this ingenuity should be going towards improving the grass at Heinz Field or finding a method from keeping stadium beers costing more than $5 a pop instead of saving a couple of players like Trent Green or Zach Thomas from themselves.

The Germans are probably testing this monstrosity out with their national cycling and bobsled teams.

Nice to see you around again Britts, been a while if I recall. Are those suppose to be anti-concussion? Those facemask are hedious - I don't see the point of them.

Thanks LAS. And yes, they're supposed to be anti-concussion helmets but look more like birth control helmets.

Touche to KD, and SSR - there are somethings my g/f does that I'd rather she be able to see what she was doing.

these look like the helmets you get with action figures. they are just close enough to normal to make kids think they are.

Sorry guys. This is no laughing matter. Closed head injuries are a serious problem and anything we can do (no matter how foolish it looks) to alleviate the potential is something that I believe in. (steps off soapbox)

I totally agree and the bite of my sarcasm was more pointed towards players who suffer numerous concussions and yet still go on the field. It's just that the helmet itself looks so bad. There's no style to it at all. There has to be a better design somewhere.

Why change the grass at Heinz Field??? We play just fine on it (except for the "mud bowl" game against the Dolphins). But, it's how the Steelers play, you can't change the grass.

If I didn't know better I would say they stole those off a crash test dummy!! But in all seriousness, the helmet will have to become a little more bulky to support a more absorbant system. Plus, I am sure it would only be put to use by players that have suffered one or more concussions already.
