I Really Don't See What the Big Deal is

I really don't see why people now hate Plaxico Burress with a passion.  He said the New York Giants would beat the New England Patriots, SO WHAT!!  I don't see what the big deal here is.  Like Michael Strahan said, if a reporter asks you if you're going to win, your not going to say no.  You're gonna say, YES, we are going to win.  You can't go into the Super Bowl thinking you're going to lose, you have to have confidence in yourself.  The only reason I would be against what Plax did, is it gives the opposing team something to play for, but it's the damn Super Bowl, both teams are going to play their hearts out.  What Plax said, will have nothing to do with the outcome of Sunday's game, the better team is going to come out on top.

I, myself, think that the Giants can win this game.  If they eliminate mistakes, and the Eli Manning of old doesn't show up come game-time, then NY has as good a chance as New England does in this game.

I'm sure you're thinking:  "Hey, your a Steelers fan, what about what Anthony Smith said about New England earlier this year?"  Well, I really don't think that made a difference either.  New England was on top of their game, Tom Brady threw 399 Yards, and 4 TD's, picking on none other than Anthony Smith.  BUT, Smith is a young guy, making his first start, he would have thrown his way any, and the SAME thing would have happened.  So, you can have a grudge against him for the rest of your life, but that's not going to change young NFL players, who think it's cool to run their mouth.  There is always going to be guys like him in the NFL (look at how the Chargers QB acts out in San Diego).

My point is, that I don't think that guaranteeing a victory has much of an effect on the outcome of the game, especially against a team as dangerous as this New England team.  Tom Brady doesn't need another reason to go out there and play hard week in, and week out, his motivation is his will to win.  This whole thing just gives the media something to talk about so they don't run out of things to talk about in the 2 weeks leading up to Super Bowl Sunday.  SO, this goes to all Giants fans: If you guys lose, don't blame this on Plaxico, because I already know he's going to give it his all (unlike LT).  AND, I didn't forget about all you Patriot fans, DON'T blame it on Brady's ankle/throwing shoulder, if the Giants fly outta Glendale with an upset win.  The only thing you're supposed to do when you lose, is congratulate the winning team, and make no excuses, instead, admit they are better than you (HA, like ANYONE ever does that).

NOTE: Not every "Guaranteed win" has turned out bad, Super Bowl III, anyone???  That's very good news for any superstitous Giants fans out there.

I don't hate him, and yes I think you should have confidence in your team, however predicting the score is just crossing the line, at least that is how I see it. I am sure that there are people out there who agree with me. I also think guys should say " i have confidence in my team and we are gonna play our best" not "I guarntee that we are gonna win, the score will be 23-17" or how ever he said it.

I wanna give you shit for how you talked about Anthony Smith after his guarantee, but at least you finally see the light. Everybody should be guaranteeing victory every week. If you aren't that confident then don't play the game.

Q: "Do you think your team will win the Super Bowl Frank?"

A: "Uhm.... well.... you know.... the other team is pretty good... faster than us....stronger than us.... better than us... you know I really don't know... I think we could win...maybe... shoot... wow... tough question...perhaps we could win?.... wow... I'm really sweating now.... "

Is that what people want?

Thanks Rawb, now I know why the Steelers lost to Pats this year. And here I thought it was because the Pats were really good this year. There it was the whole time though, the Pats won because Smith errantly guaranteed victory.

But did Smith guaranteeing victory help the Steelers in any way? Could it have? Could any player guaranteeing or predicting in public help a team win?

If everybody guaranteed victory, it would be fine. But nobody else does it. So why single yourself out as "that guy"? Why put a target on your back? Why add to the heaping helpings of media BS you already have to put up with?

I'm not saying it's evil, or wrong, or even mildly classless. It's just stupid.

When I was 10 years old my football team made it to the finals. Before the game my coach yelled "who's going to win?". We all shooted back "We ARE!". He would repeat it "Who's going to win??" We yelled back louder "WE ARE!!!!" We lost. Who would have known that's why? I always thought it was because we got out-played.

Steel Town, Frank, I wasn't inferring that the Steelers lost because of Anthony Smith's guarantee. I just think it's funny that after he embarrasses himself off the field before a game, he got embarrassed on the field, and will forever go down in Patriots history as the guarantee guy. Yet you're saying that people should do what he did.

I will repeat my story.

"When I was 10 years old my football team made it to the finals. Before the game my coach yelled "who's going to win?". We all shooted back "We ARE!". He would repeat it "Who's going to win??" We yelled back louder "WE ARE!!!!" He yelled back "DO YOU GUARENTEE IT???!!!" We whispered back "uhm, okay, maybe... I think so...perhaps.."

That always really pumped us up before game time.

The media is overplaying this but not as much as when they claimed that Burress said the Giants receivers were better. They took one quote from a long answer and claimed he said something different. If you read his quote he said that Randy Moss is the best receiver in the league but the Giants are also in the superbowl so you cant say that they have worse receivers.

Its headlines like this that make me wish the Superbowl did not have this 2 week layoff. All media outlets try to make as much money as possible off this 2 week fiasco. They will milk any quote or injury for every penny it is worth. Just to keep you watching so you see their sponsors posted on the set, or the corner of the screen, or the commercials. 2 weeks of this chit is unbearable, just play the friggin game.

Who really cares what the media thinks is important? We know the stakes. We know that the players and coaches know what an opportunity this is. All we need to do is get ready for the biggest spectacle the NFL has to offer.

Get the food, drinks, family and friends together. Plan the best party of the year.

Forget about the media coverage for two weeks and then let the party begin.

It's all about SuperBowl XLII and that's not until February 3rd.

Everything else is superfluous.

"Who really cares what the media thinks is important?" You do and so does everyone else. That's why they are the agenda setters and editors of all the information we take in. Your opinion is most times almost nothing without the media because without them, you wouldn't know what to have an opinion on.

The best part of this is the reporters sucker the players into saying something ,then turn around and criticize them for it.Just think if Plexico gets it right, he'll one up Namath.Namath didn't give the score.Of course that's about a one in a million shot.

"Sucker" the players into saying something? Don't players have minds of their own? If a reporter asks a player "Do you think you'll win?" The player should say something like "I think if we execute, we have a very good shot." He doesn't have to say "Yes, we'll win, and it will be 23-17."
