About the Author

Romiezzo
My name's Romi Ezzo and I'm a huge sports fan. My favorite thing in the world is baseball, and hopefully, I can become someone involved in sports, whether it's being a sports writer, an analyst, a commentator, or maybe just sticking around here at ArmchairGM editing stuff, and commenting every once in a while. Playing sports is what gets me going, and when I feel like I don't have the energy to actually play baseball, basketball, soccer (football), or American football, I'll just play some MVP, NBA Live, Winning 11, or Madden. My favorite baseball player is Derek Jeter (who I idolized growing up... yes, even though I'm a Red Sox fan), with Dustin Pedroia, Ichiro, and Jacoby Ellsbury in a close 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. I cannot choose a favorite basketball player (it seems like I have a different one each season). I like Dwight Howard, Kevin Garnett, Hedo Turkoglu, Amare Stoudemire, Chris Paul, Steve Nash, and Dwyane Wade... just to name a few. I'm a New England fan, which means that I love the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins. I'm glad that I can talk sports to a bunch of people that have the same in common that I do.

Keep Armchair GM alive! :)

Notes:

2 players, Carlos Pena (Tampa Bay Rays) and Mike Jacobs (Florida Marlins) hit their 5th home runs yesterday, tying Mark Reynolds (Arizona Diamondbacks) for the lead in category of "Home Runs Hit". 8 players have 4 home runs (6 from the NL and 2 from the AL).

Are you tired of seeing Cincinnati Reds' Bronson Arroyo (5) in these lockerroom posts everyday. Well, it definitely was time for a change. Thanks to the Arizona Diamondbacks, Jeff Francis surrendered 3 homers yesterday, adding to a total of 6. Along with Arroyo, Brett Myers and Roy Oswalt have been added to the list now as the pitchers who have now surrendered 5 home runs; Myers and Oswalt both surrendered 3 home runs against the Cubs and the Marlins, respectively.

Please remember that I'm still keeping track of the "Homer of the Day", and I'd really appreciate it if you guys would vote for these upcoming ones as we progress through this wonderful season.

There were a lot more home runs hit yesterday, which means there's a wider variety of choices to choose from now. 32 home runs were hit by 17 different teams. You decide what the homer of the day is.

Homer of the Day (April 10, 2008)

And the Homer of the Day of April 10, 2008, and also the first winner of the "Homer of the Day" is...

Ryan Howard! (6 votes)
Ryan Howard! (6 votes)

It was the top of the 8th inning, and the score was 3-1. Ryan Howard came up against New York Mets' reliever, Aaron Heilman. The count was 1-1 with 0 outs, and Heilman tossed Howard a fat 90 mile per hour fastball right over the plate. BIG MISTAKE, as Howard showed him that you do not throw him such a juicy pitch, hitting a monster blast over the center field wall. The Phillies ended up rallying, and tied the game at 3 apiece. Unfortunately (for the Phillies), they lost on an Angel Pagan single, scoring Jose Reyes on a close play.

Others who received votes:

Geovany Soto of the Chicago Cubs (3)
Mike Fontenot of the Chicago Cubs (1)
Magglio Ordonez of the Detroit Tigers (1)
Jay Payton of the Baltimore Orioles (1)
Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees (1)

That's cool Romi, are you going to do one for everyday? If so maybe you should make a poll and then get people to explain there votes through comments.

Hey, imagine if JD Drew never hit that homer and Coco Crisp broke the no-hitter with a bunt single in the bottom of the ninth with 2 outs. WOW!

Didn't someone "break the unwritten code" and do that a few years ago, bunting late in a no-hitter? Personally, I think it's ridiculous to complain about that kind of thing -- you play this game 100% until the final out. If they don't want me to break up a no-hitter with a bunt, then throw me out, you know?

I definitely agree with you, Davis. 100%. It's like saying that you didn't really win because some guy on my team bobbled the ball and ended up making the winning run score. I know what you mean...

Exactly, nice recall, Pean. I think Schilling or the Unit had a no-hitter going and noted bunt-for-a-hit artist Ben Davis dropped one down, so Brenly was pissed. That's baseball, though. As if a pitcher would groove one right down the middle to a guy so he could extend a hitting streak or something... Bottom line, as Herm Edwards would say, you play the game to win.

Ben Davis, when he was with the Padres, bunted in the ninth inning to break up a Curt Schilling perfect game.

The next day, Davis hit a ball into the corner and was trying to stretch it into a double, Dbacks second baseman Jay Bell "accidently tagged Davis right on the kisser, he had to come out of the game to get stitches inside his mouth.

Guaranteed Davis or anyone who saw it never did that again.

Ortiz didn't do well in the beginning of last year's season either, and look how he turned out to be. He had an upgrade in his batting average by .045 (.287-.332). Even though his home run and RBI numbers decreased, he was still able to produce runs and make things happen (scoring 116 times, hitting 35 homers and 117 RBIs). Still had a very productive season though.

Hey Romi, could we have the score of the game before the homers were hit? Would that be too difficult? I think that would really help us to better determine which homer was the best.

Sure, why not? I can do that. It's not difficult at all. However, the table is going to be a little weird since there isn't enough to add one more column. I'll talk to Pean about it and see. And as far as WPA goes, I don't know how to calculate it, and I don't know where to find it. If you gave me a site that shows me the WPA for every situation of every game, sure. I'd do it.
