A coaching legend is resting comfortably in a Los Angeles hospital tonight after he took a nasty fall at his home Thursday night. According to his daughter, Nan Muehlhausen, the 97-year-old Wooden, who remains a fixture at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion, the coach will be in an undisclosed hospital for a few days.
Wooden has a hairline fracture in his wrist and a fractured collarbone. He also hit his head, but a CT scan of his head and neck were negative. The family requested that fans not contact the hospital so that coach Wooden can recover. Let's respect that wish, folks.
Wooden retired with a 620-147 record in 27 years at UCLA, where his stars included Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Walton, Walt Hazzard and Gail Goodrich. His last game as head coach was against Kentucky in the 1975 NCAA Championship game, which the Bruins of Westwood won 92-85 in San Diego.
