About the Author

Cougar2000
There are some things about sports I don't like... the New Yuck Muts, the University of Michigan and those ASSCRACK UGLY HELMETS, the Floridamn Gayturds and the Miami Crimicanes. I also think that NASCRAP and professional wrestling are a HUGE waste of air time on television and would rather watch women's Jello wrestling!

Fox pulls "Heidi" on Red Sox-Yankees

"What we have here is a failure to communicate," spoken by "The Captain", the imperious prison warden in the movie, "Cool Hand Luke." It appears that Fox wasn't communicating to its viewers of the New York-Boston game this afternoon as with two outs in the top of the ninth, Fox goes to something else (NASCAR) and pulls a move that hasn't been seen since NBC cut away from the New York Jets-Oakland Raiders game in 1968 because the network chose to show at 7 p.m Eastern the movie"Heidi."

What in the hell were they thinking? Or more importantly, were they thinking? Left up to me, I would have overridden that decision and said, " Hell no, we're going to stay with this to the bloody end, we owe it to our viewers. We have committed this air time to this event and will stay the course. NASCAR can wait!"

Granted, there was a rain delay in that game and there were some fans that would have been more than willing to sit through it until the end of the contest. There were some of us that would have much rather seen Jonathan Papelbon go an inning and a third for the save than see NASCAR. To the good ol' boys... wait your damned turn!

One can imagine that Fox's switchboard will light up like a Christmas tree at Macy's on State Street and there will be some really angry letters coming their way. I hope that FOX issues a huge apology to their viewers and they make bloody damned sure they don't do it again. Had the interruption been for a natural disaster or the death of a world leader, that would have been acceptable. FOX needs to decide if it wants to do baseball or NASCAR this time of year. You can't have two masters, folks. It doesn't work that way. Someone had to wait their turn and it was NASCAR. They could have run the race on Sunday and had the network all to themselves or said that "we'll wait until the end of the event that's in front of us."

Think before you act, FOX! You've made a lot of people very angry indeed. Don't make baseball fans angry. You wouldn't like us when we're angry.

This is juist a farce of an article. I'm guessing fox as obligation with nascar for one. Also fox moved the game to FX so unless you live in the stoneage, you could still watch the game. Also, google isn't working for me so anyone know where this article is from?

I did, Ibearg and I thought it was best that FOX honor the first commitment. I'm not a fan of NASCAR because of the lack of minorities for one, and two, their roots came from moonshine running. They could have waited their turn.

Don't you people get it!

A) Fox needs to switch to Nascar...they don't have a choice...its contractual!! Sorta like when they have to leave an NFL game in overtime to go to the next one and/or get off the NFL because the other network has the late game

B) They moved it to FX!!! Its not like you couldn't watch it. They just switched channels!

There is one thing I must say that does not make this in anyway a Heidi moment.

They pulled away with the Sox up 4-3....did anything happen? No, the final out happened, the Yankees lost. You missed NOTHING!

The Heidi game, the Raiders came back from 32-29 to 43-32 after the game was cut away.

Seriously Cougar? An apology?

When I was an official scorer with the Atlanta Braves class A team in Macon, I had to sit through some games that should have been given the last rites, so to speak. They were either blowouts for the Braves or the opposing team, which meant that I had to sit through nine innings. It's sort of like eating the last potato chip, especially if they're good chips and you want the very last crumb.

In fact we lost out on many things that we dearly love to see -prerace interviews & articles, the prayer, the flyover by our military, "start your engines".... It would've made sense to me if they would've showed this on FX while the boringball game was still on. But NO, they had to show the game on BOTH stations - what idiot thought that made sense? As it was pointed out in the Boston Media Sports Watch blog it was a busy night for the Boston sports fan.

a) Bruins Playoff game b) Sox / Yankess c) Celtics / Hawks in a playoff preview d) BC in the frozen four final e) even the friggin revolution were playing If someone changed the channel they missed the announcement, of which they made one, then went to NASCAR, then went to a commercial a minute later. If you turned off at the wrong moment you caught a commercial and then got a nasty dose of WTF?!?!?

Not quite a Heidi moment but still a dumb move by fox. Half of america can't even find FX! If you ask a random person not near their tv or a computer what channel number FX is on their cable box they wouldn't be able to tell you off the top of their head. Yes they had an obligation to NASCAR, but they have a contract with MLB as well. And last I saw MLB was a multi-billion dollar operation, not some rinkiny-dink league to fill air time with.

End of a close baseball game versus the beginning of a NASCAR race? Come on the choice is obvious if you are a sports fan. Had Fox cut out of the last 5 laps of a close race to catch the first pitch of a baseball game the rednecks would be all up in arms! And they have guns. Seriously this was a bad call. It has little to do with NASCAR's legitimacy or their contract. MLB has a contract too. Fox Sports, as bad as Fox News.

JuT, I didn't say you did minus me. I just said the minus proved my point.

Had this been a Cubs/Cards game or a match-up between any other teams then more people would be siding with baseball fans on this one. I'd be pissed no matter who was playing, you don't cut out on the end of a close game. THE NFL is different because at least it's because of other football games that their stupid rule exists. So that's the NFL messing with itself and not a network being stupid.

To us in a bar north of Boston, it was a Heidi moment. We had waited and waited for the game to return from the rain delay. For a time, the bar switched over to the Bruins playoff game while we waited. But when it returned, we were transfixed. Pitch by pitch. Cheers for each out. Anticipation built. We were watching a great at bat by a great batter against a great pitcher. Pitch 7. Pitch 8... Cars racing. What??? No! We thought it was a just a quick breakaway between pitches. The game would return. After all, the game is NOT over until its over. With the Yankees down by one run, they have the capability of getting that home run. For those of you who wonder why we didn't change the channel to FX? In this resturant bar, the sound is off. So all announcements are missed. If they ran a message along the bottom of the screen, nobody saw it. Perhaps because it ran while the bar had switched to the Bruins. I wonder how many other area bars had the same situation? It was a brutal moment and I hope Fox is sensitive to what they did.

They probably should have left the dying seconds on in the local markets and have everyone else switch over. Still, it was a rather moot point, since unlike the Heidi Game there was no comeback.

Why does it matter if there was no comeback??? The point is - a network switched away from a game in progress! The reason the Heidi game is known in the first place is because the network felt the game was over - not the case here. The comparison may be stretching it a bit, but its not a totally invalid comparison. All right people you disagree with the comparison - does it mean the opinion is wrong? How can that be?? It's an opinion.
