AGM Linebacker and I will bring the pain.

I'm a sports fanatic. I hail from Nelson County Virginia, and thats where I learned to be a Virginia Cavalier fan. I also learned to be a Dallas Cowboys fan because I hated how good the Redskins were doing. I've played sports at almost every level with the exception of being a fulltime professional, as a result I have a great perception on the sporting world. I love to talk sports and I've never been shy to share my opinion with someone.

Football Season is back and so is Walker's Rants

The NFL season kicked off on Sunday, college football on Saturday was amazing. And Walker-Sports managed to survive a Tropical Depression. All together, I have to say it was a helluva weekend. But, it still won’t be good enough to top this edition of Walker’s Rants.

Tom Brady done for the year, that is actually very good for the NFL…

Vince Young goes down for 2-4 weeks, that’s actually very good for the Titians…

The Eagles are back, but don’t sign them up for the Super Bowl just yet, the Rams are a horrible team…

A bad call by the refs just cost Ty Willingham his job. That is an absolute disgrace…

Notre Dame and Michigan next weekend, remember when that game would decide a national title?

His name is Chad Johnson and I will forever call him Johnson, Ocho Cinco is just stupid…

Speaking of stupid, T.O.’s celebration was great, bring on Bolt…

Okay the Jets got the win, but let’s not go crazy and crown them just yet…

The Colts problem is not Manning recovering from his injury, but rather Jeff Saturday being out. The Bears killed

the Colts with a blitz up the middle…

ECU will be the team that crashes the BCS games not BYU…

Offensive lines are what win football games and Super Bowls. Just look at the Cowboys, Philly, and Pitt and what they did yesterday…

Chuck Liddell got hoe’d…

Don Haskins will be missed. He was pioneer that changed the face of college basketball…

Brett Favre, the Akli Smith with talent…

OSU is good, but they are not USC good. Next week will be a rude awakening for the Big 10 again…

The hit on Brady was not dirty. It was a good football play…

The entire world is watching Aaron Rogers tonight. Let’s see what he can do…

Fall rugby season is here! Time for Walker-Sports to suit it up one more time and see if these old knees can

survive another season, wish us luck, we may need it…

T.O. pretends to warm up for a race and gets a 15 yard penalty. His celebration involved no props or other teammates. But Favre runs and jumps and hoots and hollers for 56 yards and the refs don't bat and eye. Me thinks there's a double standard.

While I agree with you to some degree. But the reason T.O. got a penalty is players are not allowed to "go to the ground" as part of a celebration.

The NFL's been searching for this so called line for years now...when is it too much?

Favre's involved jumping up in the air, and Alan Faneca catching him, not to mention the 20 yard run up. It's bullshit and it's blatant racism. I find it hard to stick up for TO in MOST circles of white people without a racial slur finding it's way into the conversation.

If players aren't allowed to go on the ground to celebrate a TD, what is the ruling on getting on one knee to thank god after a TD. The can't keep making rules to try and stop only a select few players and letting everyone else slide.

Yeah, sure, Brady's injury is "very good for the NFL". Always great news for a league when maybe its biggest superstar goes down with a season-ending injury. Just ask the PGA Tour how it's working out for them...

Not the same at all DW. Tiger Woods is the PGA, but the NFL has proved this time and time again, that it is much much bigger than anyone 1 player. There are as many if not more who hate the Pats as there are people who love Brady and the Pats. The Patriots are a draw but there are plenty of arguments that they are not even the biggest draw in the NFL. Brett with the Jets will always draw ratings. The Cowboys will always draw well. There are plenty of other options out there.

Obviously it was hyperbole, but c'mon, it's "very good news for the NFL" that he got hurt? That's bullsh*t and you know it. The NFL became a less marketable product the second he went down.

Maybe Tom Brady became less marketable...maybe the NFL is less marketable in New England, but the league overall? I disagree... Look no further for the most marketable NFL player...it isn't Tom Brady

I disagree, I think it is more marketable. What makes the NFL great and what they hang their hat on is parity. Having the Pats torch the league, especially their division ruined that. Now all of a sudden, the Bills and the Jets have a chance, and those games got a lot more interesting.

I don't know Davis. I think a lot of AFC fans out there just saw their super bowl chances get a little better. Lets face it, most fans out there thought the Pats had the best chance of going to the super bowl. Now it appears wide open, hell, even the jets have a shot at winning the division now (so I hear). How is that not better for football.

All I'm saying is, the casual fan isn't going to tune in for New England vs. Indianapolis/San Diego/Pittsburgh/etc. anymore. Now, maybe they'll watch different games, but maybe they won't. Think about the NBA's ratings when the Bulls' dynasty ended... Love or hate the Pats, you made it a point to watch them last year and you were going to do the same this year. But now? Not so much.

Eh... typically the casual fan only tunes in for the big games, (Super Bowl, Conference Championships) and in addition their local games. The NBA built its image on Michael Jordan and the Bulls. Jordan built the NBA once Bird and Magic left the game. The NFL did not build the NFL on Brady. The Pats have been a good story, but again so is Brett, the Giants, The Bears, and plenty of others.

And Justin, that Fortunate 50 is determined by salary + endorsements... The NFL's salary system is not the same as that of other sports -- signing bonuses are the only guaranteed $$ and they come at the beginning of the contract, that's how Ben Roethlisberger ranks so far ahead of Brady. With signing bonuses and constantly-restructured contracts, comparing NFL "salaries" to those of NBA and MLB players in terms of single-year net income is like comparing apples and oranges...

Brady is 3rd in the NFL in the Fortunate 50, BTW... behind Peyton Manning and Ben Roethlisberger.

You can't deny that last year, the NFL was built on the Patriots... In fact, the Patriots were synonymous with the 2007 NFL season, from beginning to end. From Moss, to SpyGate, to running up the score, to the records, to 16-0, and then 18-0, and then finally the Super Bowl upset of all upsets, the Patriots were the story, week in and week out. Don't tell me that the sudden absence of that story won't negatively impact the league.

I don't know if I speak for everyone, but I only watched the Ravens/Pats game and the Giants/Pats game in the regular season. Then I caught some of the Pats playoff games. Despite all the talk I really didn't watch any more games of theirs than usual. I didn't buy anything Patriots last year either. And, I don't think I am in the minority. With or without Brady, I just don't see the Pats bringing in any extra revenue for the league if they don't go 16-0 again.

That's the same reference to your Tiger Woods comment, DW, and the correct one.

Seriously, how many of you will watch a PGA event if Tiger's not playing? How many will watch if Tiger's not in contention on Sunday?

Same now. While football fans in general will pull their car over and watch a Pop Warner game just because its football, some fans are team/player specific. It isn't important how many TD's Randy Moss catches, it's how many Brady throws.

And I actually think MORE people will watch the Pat's now, just because they want to see them lose.

I couldn't agree more KD. I know for me I only tuned in to watch the Pats last season when it was a close game because I hated watching them crush team. Watching that team fail and hearing the silence that comes over Boston will be sweet music to my ears and that of plenty of other fans across the country.

The Casual fan also doesn't pay attention to who is playing and who isn't. They don't pay attention to the players and half the time they most likely wouldn't even know who plays for what team.
