Flyers don't want headache...AGAIN

After the Flyers practiced in Voorhees, NJ today the locker was very busy. Other than the announcement that Joffrey Lupul will probably play tomorrow night, the same old drum was beating.

Will he or won't he?

That is of course about the return speculation of Peter Forsberg to the team. I was in the locker room after practice and it seemed as if the team has wiped their hands clean of the situation. If he comes here, great, if not, then we can play without him like we have been. Flyers' coaches though, are preparing for the addition of Forsberg with their line changes today during practice. Jeff Carter was playing wing while R.J. Umberger was at center, which is rare for both.

On the Foppa end, I was speaking to some reporters and heard grumblings that Forsberg might not make a decision until late February. He still isn't sure at all about his ankle and foot issues.

We all know that Peter Forsberg at 85 percent is better than most NHL players, but that's not how Forsberg is looking at the situation. He is the ultimate professional and wants to give nothing less than 100 percent. Peter has said he doesn't want to come back to any team if controversy starts over his health and contribution. The Flyers today sounded as if they don't want to deal with the headache once again about if he plays, how long will it be before he gets hurt?

It's a total distraction to everyone, and Peter understands that completely. Word is that when and if Forsberg does come back, the leadership group will set the standards on how things are going to go this time around.

They are having an amazing season so far and don't want anything to happen to it. Philadelphia is ready and poised for anything that's going to happen. Lastly, if Forsberg does come back healthy, then awesome! If he doesn't come back, then we all have to move on!

Yeah, I heard Foppa pulled back a bit on whether he is coming back at all this season. He definitely wants to play, but if I were him, I'd want to be completely healthy before making the full commitment to return... I expect it to be the Flyers that would end up with Peter Forsberg, but I wouldn't rule out the other teams on his short list just yet. Right now, the Flyers are in a good position in the Eastern Conference with or without Forsberg. They have to play as if he's not rejoining them or the speculation will just be a distraction in itself.

Its true... I think if you're the flyers, you're looking for a commitment...even if that means he doesn't come till march. There's a 90% chance forsberg helps the team, but then again, if it ain't broke, don't fix it...
