Last night, the Tennessee Lady Vols beat Stanford, 64-48, to take their second consecutive national title.

Behind the leadership of star Candace Parker (17 points, 9 rebounds), the Vols used stifling defense to shut down what had been a high-powered Stanford offense. Stanford star Candice Wiggins was held to 14 points, after averaging 27 in the tournament. Senior center Nicky Anosike led the defensive charge, using her length to get into passing lanes and disrupt the Stanford ball-handlers. Anosike also showed up offensively, adding 12 points to go with her six steals and eight rebounds. Senior point guard Shannon Bobbitt added to the balanced scoring with 13 points (with three shots from long range).

This year's championship is the eighth in the program's history and the eighth for coach Pat Summit, who already has the most wins in NCAA history (men or women). Summit is now 104-19 in the NCAA tournament and 8-5 in title games.
