There are some things about sports I don't like... the New Yuck Muts, the University of Michigan and those ASSCRACK UGLY HELMETS, the Floridamn Gayturds and the Miami Crimicanes. I also think that NASCRAP and professional wrestling are a HUGE waste of air time on television and would rather watch women's Jello wrestling!

Dream on! Game on! Atlanta gets new WNBA franchise

The newest WNBA team will be called the Atlanta Dream.

Atlanta unveiled the nickname Wednesday along with its red and blue logo with stars and a basketball.

Team owner Ron Terwilliger said it was no coincidence the announcement came so soon after the city observed the annual holiday for Martin Luther King Jr.

"Atlanta is a city of dreamers and this week we have had time to reflect on what it means to dream and what can happen when you do," Terwilliger said. "Little girls, like little boys, imagine playing in front of cheering crowds and achieving success in professional sports leagues. We believe Dream best captures Atlanta's spirit and the core values of the WNBA."

Atlanta was awarded the franchise in October. WNBA president Donna Orender said support for the 14th team in the league "has been tremendous."

Marynell Meadors, one of the league's eight original coaches, is the coach and general manager.

The Dream will play their home games at Philips Arena. The home opener is May 23 against the Detroit Shock.

Another professional sports team for Atlanta to collectively ignore.

I hope their owner is more interested in this franchise than the Atlanta Spirit ownership of the Thrashers and Hawks.

Why would anyone in their right mind put another team in ATL? Atlanta fans hardly follow the teams they have in place right now.

14 divisional titles in baseball, this little event called the Olympics and a couple of Super Bowls... Atlantans do come out.

As much as I barely have any interest in the WNBA anymore, I honestly thought Philadelphia would've been a better city to host a new expansion team. If the Atlanta Dream do well, then all the power to them for taking their chances at making this venture work.

Atlanta will become a basketball town again... or were they ever?

There was this fellow named Wilkins. If the Hawks get someone half as good (and I'm not saying Josh Smith or Acie Law are bad), then Atlanta will be a basketball town again. Right now, baseball has become king of the hill.
