Don't Be Surprised

On July 30th the New York Times reported Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz and Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez were among the 103 players that tested positive for a banned substance in 2003.

Nobody should be surprised with Ortiz and Ramirez testing positive. The only players that would raise any eyebrows is New York Yankees shortshop Derek Jeter and closer Mariano Rivera. Besides those two, there isn't a name in baseball that would be surprising.

The only strange part about this situation is Ortiz "acting" like he had no idea. Take a look at Ortiz when he was playing for the Minnesota Twins and then look at him now. I'm surprised it took this long for someone to finally bring his name up.

I'm pretty sure Ortiz wishes he can take back those comments he made about players using performance enhancing drugs. Now he's one of them and it's about time.

Ortiz' days with the Twins weren't even worth mentioning, but with the Red Sox he was "Big Papi." Since Ramirez got traded to the Dodgers, Ortiz hasn't been the same. I wounder what's the reason?

Nothing the Red Sox accomplish should be tainted, because it took more than Ortiz and Ramirez for them to win those two World Series Championships. There's plenty of other players the Red Sox had that played a huge role in their success.

Don't criticize Ortiz and Ramirez; criticize the MLB. Everyone knows they did a horrible job dealing with performance enhancing drugs. Nobody did anything about this situation and many believed it helped the sport.

They're all Hall of Fame players.

I must respectfully disagree. I think that Manny most likely was a Hall of Famer until this nonsense. And I think that Ortiz is about as much of a Hall of Famer as I am - even with the 'roids.

And I think that Ortiz and Ramirez are both worthy or criticism. They made it to the majors, and for whatever reason felt that what they were doing wasn't enough. So they cheated and forver tainted themselves and the sport they play. Once again, the only losers here are the fans who seem to be the only ones who truly care about baseball.

As for Jeter and Rivera - it's silly to just give them a pass. Show me a negative test and I'll believe it. And that goes for anyone currently suiting up. I have my own ideas about who is juicing and who isn't, but I'll never look at another player again and just assume that player is not juicing. And this is because of cheating a-holes like Ortiz and Ramirez.

Kenrick, could you please do me two favors - please use less commas and please try to come up with more descriptive headlines. I think that people are skipping over your articles because the headlines are not telling us what we're about to read. I almost passed by this article myself.

My son made a statement several years ago about Jeter and Ortiz and A-Rod about steriods and everyone just kind of pushed it to the side and didn't want to talk about it. Well, it seems he was right on the mark. It has become in today's game name the players not using steriods. If you listen to the powers that be in baseball, this era will or may have a * to it and if any players known to have used the illegal drugs gets into the hall of fame than they all should. My stand has always been if you get caught then no hall of fame and that includes all of them from ARod to Jeter and the rest. But one thing I do fine interesting is Manny has the stats and no conviction of anabolic steriods, just a female homone replacement drug, and all the others have either been tested for anabolic steriods as positive or came out of the closet and admitted it to the press and public. About the only player or former player that hasn't lied about doing drugs is Jose C. With the exception of Jr I want someone to name a player that nobody suspects of steriod use. And the only reason I put Jr in that is his body type hasn't changed any since he came into the league. He wasn't big then and he is still the same today. ARod, Mark McGuire, Bonds all have changed or stayed the same since they came into the league. Manny's body hasn't changed but he was convicted of using female subs so where does that leave the fans. Who to believe' The fans in LA don't care because Manny brought back great baseball and winning to LA and is extremely fun to watch and stills hits the living hell out of the ball. Drama is his name and is his game whether it is hitting grandslam homers to being hit by a pitch after hitting a homer and double and driving in 3 runs when the Dodgers had a 9 run lead. Ken M shouldn't have allowed his pitcher to throw at him twice before hitting with an extremely inside pitch high up in the strike zone. Steriods or non steriods Just Play Baseball Period......

MLB should have done something when the time was right. But they didn't and know they pay!
