Dolphins Shopping Taylor: And other NFL Trade Rumors

The Miami Dolphins are putting Jason Taylor on the market, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Taylor has quietly requested a trade out of Miami, and Miami is looking for another 1st round draft pick. Personally, I think this could help the Dolphins greatly, and I don't blame Taylor for wanting out of there. The 33-year old D-End out of Akron has the most sacks in the NFL since 2000, with 100.5. Who will turn down that offer (that is, if they feel the need to give up their first round draft pick)???

I feel that New England would be a great fit, knowing they like having alot of experience on the defensive side of the ball, and could always use help on the Defensive Line. But, since New England had to forfeit their first-round draft pick, that is not very likely.

ESPN's NFL reporter, John Clayton, doesn't think this trade will end up happening, but I wouldn't just give up on it just because Clayton says so. I think there is a chance he could be dealt to team with a late first round pick, like say, the Jaguars, who have the 26th overall pick, and has had some questions surrounding the Defensive Line. Taylor can add leadership on the defensive side, and has a great work ethic. I think the Jags D would improve by simply signing this guy to a short-term contract. The Jags have a great offense right now, with David Garrard calling the plays, and a dynamic duo in the backfield (Fred Taylor, and Maurice Jones-Drew). The Jags even added veteran wideouts Jerry Porter, and Troy Williamson this offseason. I feel that the Jags can take a chance with Taylor, who hasn't missed a game since 2000, and is a 6-time Pro-Bowler. I feel Jacksonville, who is projected to take "The U's" DB, Kenny Phillips, according to AGM's Official Mock Draft, in the first round, can take a decent DB in the 2nd or 3rd round.

Will JT get traded? Or will he stay in Miami where all the babes are?
Will JT get traded? Or will he stay in Miami where all the babes are?

Though Bill Parcells, Miami's Executive VP of Football Operations, doesn't think this trade is gonna go through, either. On March 3rd, Parcells said "The only way Taylor doesn't play for the Fins in 2008 is if he retires. The team is not going to trade him." But, if he was going to leave Miami, the biggest buyer I see, is the Jaguars.

Recent trades, and signings:

  • Yesterday, the KC Chiefs traded D-End, Jared Allen, to Minnesota for a first round draft pick, and both of Minnesota's 3rd round draft picks. Allen became the richest defender in the League, signing a contract worth $31 Million (over 6 years).
  • Last night, Adam "Pacman" Jones agreed with Dallas in principle on a contract, sending a fourth round pick to Tennessee.
  • Earlier today, the NYJ traded D-Lineman, Dewayne Robertson to Denver for an undisclosed draft pick.

Other Trade Rumors:

  • Chad Johnson is still seeking a new home, and still plans on not playing in '08 if he doesn't get traded. But Cincy's Head Coach, Marvin Lewis, seems pretty firm on the whole situation, as of right now.
  • Jeremy Shockey could be heading to New Orleans.
  • Former Oakland Raider QB, Daunte Culpepper, is meeting with the Green Bay Packers. Apparently they don't fully trust Aaron Rodgers, just yet.

Be sure to check out the Official AGM Mock Draft.

Taylor is more of a team player, plays a more important position, and doesn't miss many games. Those are the reasons I can think of off the top of my head. Jason Taylor is probably the most feared D-End in the League, but there are many TE's ahead of Shockey, I believe.

Yeah Taylor's a Hall of Fame caliber player (Not saying he'll get in yet, but he has the potential to do so) whereas Shockey does as well, but he's so inconsistent and the fact the Giants finally won the Super Bowl, while not really meaning anything can't help his cause either.

I can't see any TE's ever signing a deal that will make them the highest paid player in the NFL. TE's come and go year after year. Alge Crumpler has declined since the decline of Michael Vick, and I think Kevin Boss proved that NY doesn't need Shockey.

You can pick up a pretty decent T-End in the very last round or two of your fantasy League. Names like LJ Smith, and Chris Cooley come to mind.

TE's ahead of Shockey:

Tony Gonzalez

Antonio Gates

Jason Witten

Kellen Winslow

Todd Heap

DE's ahead of Taylor:

My thinking is that Shockey is 28 on opening day while Taylor is 34, how many more years can Taylor be a top DE?

I'd say hes got 3-4 productive years in his future, but you're right, he is aging. That's the only thing that would put Shockey above Taylor, though.

Yeah, I def can't wait to get home from work Saturday, and tune in to ESPN for the draft!! I don't think teams with the number 1 overall pick should be allowed to sign a player ahead of time, though. It ruins the excitement, and suspense of the Draft.
