Do The Magic Have Enough To Win It All?

The Magic are now down one game in the NBA Finals to the Lakers. For the Magic to come out and tie the series they will have to win the next one in L.A. In the first game Courtney Lee was guarding Kobe, which (by the way) was a horrible match up. Why would Lee be guarding Kobe if Lee is a rookie? Don't get me wrong, Courtney Lee is a great player, but the only thing that I am angry about is that you're having a rookie guard an NBA veteran. I look for the Magic to win Game 2 and head back to Orlando with the momentum swinging in their favor.

For the Magic, Dwight Howard needs to start playing better in this series. Rashard Lewis and Rafer Alston are the key 3 point contributors to the Magic's success. The Lakers looked very hungry for a championship on Thursday night, but the question is can they beat Orlando again in Game 2? There is no doubt the Lakers are hungry for a NBA Title, but the Magic have not won a title since I believe it was 1995. Correct me if I am wrong on that date, but I think it is correct.

Some people predicted the Lakers to win the NBA Finals in 6 games, but for me I say the Magic in 7 games. I am quite sure that this series will go to a Game 6, but only if Orlando plays well and guards Kobe.

The question now becomes: Who will step up in Game 2 and deliver for either team?

The Magic have never won a title but, were in the 1995 final against the Houston Rockets but were swept 4-0.

They do not have a prayer of winning the NBA Finals. Then again, I didn't think they would make it this far so what do I know? The Lebrons should have won and it would have been a much more compelling series. The NBA could use a showdown between Lebron and Kobie with Lebron coming out on top.

I hate that phrase: "they should have won." Nothing is a given. And just because the Cavs didn't advance to face the Lakers in what would've been a Kobe vs. LeBron matchup, that doesn't make the NBA Finals any less compelling; real NBA fans would still watch this Finals in my opinion. The Magic were the better team, which is why they made the finals. Same thing with the Lakers and the Nuggets; the Lakers had a better chemistry and were the better team.

Sure, the NBA's rating would increase if the Cavs and Lakers faced off in an NBA Finals, but why do you say that they "could use a showdown between LeBron and Kobe"? I think this finals is going to be great. 6 or 7 games with two of the following scenarios:

  1. Kobe leads the Lakers to their first NBA Finals win since Shaq was on the roster, and Kobe gets a lot more recognition and respect for pulling through... or
  2. The Magic earn their first franchise NBA Finals win over the Lakers. That'll get Stan Van Gundy to prove Pat Riley wrong when Riley forced Van Gundy to resign from the Heat (since Riley wanted to coach his own team to a championship win the year they won it), and Dwight Howard will get his first ring (in a career that already has many accomplishments as a 23 year old... 23!!!), as well as Rashard Lewis, Hedo Turkoglu, etc. And you know that they've all been trying to defy the odds since the beginning. They beat the 76ers in 6 (not much to say there), then they beat the Celtics in a thrilling 7 game series (one of the best we've witnessed in a while), and then they beat the Cavs (the favorite to win it ALL, never mind the Conference Finals... since they were 8-0 in their first 8 2009 playoff games) in 6 games!
Both teams have been through a lot. I just don't see why many people are so hyped up over a Kobe and LeBron matchup and everyone is so down right now... when we [almost] know that the Lakers and Magic are going to put on a show...
