Day 1 - Australia Vs West Indies

The first test between Australia and the West Indies got underway yesterday at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica. Just before the start of the series Australian captain Ricky Ponting said his side was not taking the Windies lightly as their bowling department has improved and they have a good side. However at the end of the first day's play it was the Aussies who had the upper hand all thanks to their captain. Australia finished day 1 at 301/4 with Ponting scoring 158. Hussey and Hodge supported him with half centuries. Earlier Fidel Edwards had removed both openers before Ponting and Hussey started building the innings. Ponting had 17 hits to the fence and one over it. Ponting was eventually back in the pavilion after spooning a catch to Parchment of the bowling of Dwayne Bravo. The Windies will have to put up a better performance on day 2 if they want to restrict the Aussies and stay in the game.
