DO NOT TOUCH MALKIN

After Sidney Crosby got hurt it is almost as the league has put a protection on the other Penguin superstar, Evgeni Malkin.

Last night was another prime example in the game against the Boston Bruins, which the Bruins won 2-1. Early in the third Malkin was breaking in and Bruins defenseman Dennis Wideman step up to take him off the puck. Then Malkin jumped to try and get around Wideman. Wideman followed through and clipped a piece of Malkin and he fell to the ice. The referee’s arm shot up. Kneeing was the official call, however as far as I could see the Wideman’s knee didn’t come close to touching Malkin.

Then a few nights ago against the Flyers, Scott Hartnell hit Malkin. Not the cleanest hit but there I have seen much dirtier hits not be called. The result, one of the most skilled players in the game sets up a power play goal.

I understand that they don’t want guys to get hurt, but call it for everyone, I didn’t see Sergei Gonchar's high hit on Aaron Ward that sent Ward to the Hospital get called. Just call the games fair.

It's not just the Pens, Jarko Ruutu got called on a kneeing penalty when he hit Kovalchuck. It's BS, but that's what the league does. The fans like to see hit, but they also like to see the stars.

I don't understand what you are saying? From how I understand it, Malkin is getting hit (dirty or not) and you don't like it? Please explain better (because I am too inept to understand this)

Ok, I was asking, cause my response was pretty confusing itself. But, aren't they always?  :)

I am sayiing that the game needs hits, but the officials and the league is not allowing the superstars, like Malkin and Kovalchuck get hit. I want to see the game called fairly. If Wideman and also Ruutu as Steel Town pointed out get called for these, questionable calls then you also have to call the questionable hits against guys who are not superstars, like Gonchar's hit on Aaron Ward last night. I want hits and I want the star players, but as a hockey player and a fan I want to see the game called fairly.

I understand what you are saying, and I agree with you. The thing is, the NHL doesn't. They want to see hard hitting, but you better leave the stars alone. To be honest, that is hockey tradition. What would have happened if someone had taken a run at Wayne or Mario. They would have been crushed by some goon. Well, that gave the league a bad image, so now they let the refs dole out the punishment instead of the goons.

yes, if he gets hit and there is any possible way to call it a penatly a ref will make the call. It is not just Malkin though it is most of the star players in the NHL, Kovalchuck, Crosby (when he returns from injury), And manny many others.

Weird observation: I've never seen a picture of Evgeni Malkin playing hockey with his mouth closed. He's like Michael Jordan or something.
